Alldocube RK3188 Tablet Factory Tour Part 1/3: Headquarters

Welcome on my full tour (Part 1 of 3) at the Alldocube Tablet Factory in Shenzhen China. This is the tour at the Alldo Cube Headquarters, featuring their R&D office, design, testing, component storage, component quality control and the device repair/support area. Alldocube in Shenzhen is finalizing the testing and is beginning mass production of the Rockchip RK3188 Quad-core ARM Cortex-A9 28nm HKMG based tablets. Full mass production of the new RK3188 Quad-core Tablets is expected for the middle of April 2013. Check back in the next days for the Parts 2 and 3 of this Factory Tour, to feature the Alldocube SMT Line and Assembly lines next.

Allwinner A31 9.7″ Retina factory tour at Celeb Tech

Here is a tour of the Celeb Tech factory in Shenzhen China. This is their touchpanel assembly line, they also have a more general tablet assembly factory in another part of Shenzhen (Dongguan) which I may go to and film at the next time I visit Shenzhen. They are in full swing producing the pretty awesome 9.7″ Retina Allwinner A31 Quad-core ARM Cortex-A7 tablet that sells at some pretty amazing prices on the Chinese market.

SED Electronics Market (Tablets Market) in Shenzhen walk-through

Here’s my latest 20-minute steadicam/GH3 walk through the SED Electronics Market in Shenzhen, that building is my favorite in the Shenzhen Huaqiangbei Electronics market area. This is where you can find all the tablets, HDMI sticks and tablet accessories. I film through this market with the Tiffen Steadicam Merlin 2 on arm and vest with the Panasonic GH3 camera and 12-35mm lense.

Pipo Max-M9, RK3188 28nm HKMG Quad-core ARM Cortex-A9 Tablet

Rockchip RK3188 is arriving on the market! This is the first RK3188 Quad-core ARM Cortex-A9 on GLOBALFOUNDRIES 28nm HKMG process Tablet that I have yet seen on the Shenzhen Huaqiangbei market. Pipo just released it today on the Chinese Tablet market. You can also watch my RK3188 video interview with Rockchip here. The price thus far is 1200rmb ($193) if you’re in Shenzhen on the Huaqiangbei market there. Pipo plans to release RK3188 with different screen sizes, perhaps 7″, 8″, 9.4″ (first time I see that size) and 9.7″ Retina also.

iOS and Windows apps to soon run on Android?

Check out my 41-minute video with Bernhard Rosenkränzer, Android engineer at Linaro, where he explains how iOS, Windows Phone/RT/8 and full Linux apps can soon run on Android. He shows off how GCC/LLVM/Clang now runs on Android, allowing developers to develop and compile code directly on Android. Soon, perhaps as 64bit ARMv8 devices reach the market by next year, developers won’t need an x86 Laptop machine to develop for/on Android. Compile a new Android and reboot into it, all within Android itself. He explains how Google and the open source Android project is using Linaro code to optimize and speed up Android Linux on all ARM devices. Here‘s the video that I filmed last year that got him to win the “Online Superstar” award at Linaro Connect 2013.

ARM demonstrates GPU Computing on the new ARM Mali-T604 GPU, rendering graphical features, filters, encoding, processing certain things much faster and using much less power by processing those things on the GPU instead of on the CPU.

ARM runs the Epic Citadel benchmark at 55fps at 2560×1600 (4 megapixels = 2x 1080p) on the Mali-T604 while on Intel’s latest mobile platform, that same benchmark runs 10fps slower at a resolution of only 1280×720 (less than 4x lower resolution?). ARM also shows the improvements when using the Mali-T604 with Open GL ES 3.0 which hopefully is soon going to be added in Android, providing higher quality 3D graphics features.

You get the full Android 4.1 Jelly Bean experience on the 24″ Viewsonic VSD241 1080p display running on a Tegra3 quad-core ARM Cortex-A9 processor and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich on the 22″ Viewsonic VSD220 1080p display running on the OMAP4430 dual-core ARM Cortex-A9. Marvell shows their new PXA1088 Quad-core ARM Cortex-A7 processor, here in a reference design smartphone. They also show the dual-core PXA968 with CDMA and with TD-SCDMA both pin-compatible in a 7″ tablet reference design.

Nvidia Tegra4 quad-core ARM Cortex-A15 with HDR video and photo engine

Nvidia is releaing their quad-core ARM Cortex-A15 processor, here demonstrating their Chimera camcorder and photography engine that enables fast and easy HDR photography and video recording. They have a special sensor and technology that allows one optical system to record enough range to create HDR video at full 1080p 30fps framerate enabling also HDR photography on all upcoming Tegra4 devices without needing to take more than one picture. Tegra4 can playback 4K video, it has a 72-core GPU enabling advanced graphics and GPU Compute and a lot of other features.

Allwinner released the Allwinner A31 quad-core ARM Cortex-A7 processor with SGX544MP2 back in December, and tablets have been shipping with it since January. Now at Mobile World Congress 2013, Allwinner announces the Allwinner A31S for use in Phablets, to support the modem module from ZTE and be optimized for Phablet use, Phablets are described as 3G/LTE phone devices between 5″ and 7″ in screen size. Allwinner also talks about the Allwinner A20 dual-core ARM Cortex-A7 with Mali-400 that is pin-compatible with Allwinner A10 tablet designs, thus the A20 is expected to replace all Allwinner A10 tablet designs from March onwards.

299€ GoClever Hybrid, Rockchip RK3066 Tablet with Keyboard Dock

Check out this GoClever Hybrid tablet with keyboard dock. It’s similar to the Asus Transformer but for about half the price, selling at 299€ in 15 European countries. This device runs on the Rockchip RK3066 dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 and they plan to also release one featuring the Allwinner A31 quad-core ARM Cortex-A7.
