Archos Gamepad 2

Posted by – October 13, 2013

Archos releases the Archos Gamepad 2 ($199/179€ MSRP) on Rockchip RK3188 Quad-core ARM Cortex-A9 28nm HKMG 1.6Ghz, with 2GB RAM, 8GB or 16GB Flash storage (perhaps more storage options to be available for people who want to store many Android games on built-in Flash storage and not on MicroSD?), 1280×800 super high quality IPS display, new improved Gamepad buttons, new improved design compared to Archos Gamepad from last year (2, 3, 4), 5000mAh battery for long enough battery life, Mini-HDMI output, USB host/slave, Bluetooth (nice for controllers too when connected to HDTV). Basically this is better than a portable open Ouya. The future of Android gaming is nice. If I do get the chance to test the device for a bit, let me know what I should test on it. Should I test certain emulator performance such as N64? Dreamcast? Which games?

HP Chromebook 11 launched $279, Exynos5250 (dual-core ARM Cortex-A15, Mali-T604)

Posted by – October 8, 2013

Yes! The Second ARM Chromebook is now released for $279, made by HP. But wait, still same Exynos5250? Why no Octa? Isn’t that the exact same Exynos5 Dual processor Samsung used in Samsung Chromebook released a year ago? Maybe it’s tweaked. This HP Chromebook 11 sounds to have a better IPS display, better build quality perhaps, MicroUSB charging (is it a 5A or at least 2A MicroUSB charger?) The really good news is that Samsung is providing its Exynos5 for ARM Chromebooks by third parties, such as the huge HP. It would be nicest to see Exynos5420 in there though. 28nm vs 32nm, Octa big.LITTLE vs Dual, Mali-T628 vs Mali-T604, 1.9Ghz vs 1.7Ghz, etc.

Sonostar E Ink Smartwatch prototype

Posted by – October 5, 2013

Here’s the latest Sonostar E Ink smartwatch prototype. The Bluetooth 4.0 data connection and E Ink screen seem to be working, now the main challenge I think is going to be app support, how Android is going to send over which data to the E Ink screen, there needs to be a Wearable Computer protocol for Android, one in which things like app notifications, small versions of apps can automatically be sent over to such a smaller display as this E Ink Bluetooth 4.0 smartwatch.
