Smart floors & Sensor Technology with Joanneum Research

Posted by Charbax – July 1, 2020

PyzoFlex is an affordable, printable (by e.g. screen printing) sensor technology that can be implemented on an industrial scale. It allows the large-scale and accurate measurement of temperature and pressure changes as well as vibration monitoring in objects and their environment. In addition, there is know-how for the data processing and communication of the sensor signals (sensor-specific electronics) as well as customer or application-specific interpretation of the sensor signals (software or intelligence), thus resulting in devices for different applications Wherever pressure / temperature changes, vibrations or shock waves occur, piezoelectric and pyroelectric generators can be used to convert mechanical deformation (changes in thickness) and temperature differences into electrical energy. Ferroelectric polymers belonging to the PVDF-Class (polyvinylidene fluoride) are used as a basic material due to the fact that they exhibit strong piezoelectric and pyroelectric activity after a poling procedure. These materials are also extremely stable, UV and weather resistant, flame-retardant and have a high chemical durability. Any mechanical deformation caused by contact, pressure or movement can also be used to generate electrical energy (piezoelectric energy harvesting). These sensors can easily be implemented or laminated in/onto different surfaces giving them an added value. The unique properties and robustness of this technology open up a host of entirely new possibilities and make it suitable for many different fields of application – as there are: IoT, smart living and smart city, automotive & smart mobility, smart wearables, cyber physical systems, strain gauges, and many more. An HR Story: Hiring at Classic Stripes: A unique Culture!

Posted by Charbax – December 7, 2019

To create a global organisation that would create state of the art products in the field Of Printed Flexible Electronics, it's necessary to create a culture that was very far away from cultures dictated by management science. This means it has to be a culture that is not based upon the tenets of cooperation or performance management. So they do away with Performance appraisals and meetings. They bring in a culture based upon on 3 tenets: Entrepreneurship: Circle of Accountability, Execution: My Word, and Collaboration: Taking a stand for others’ success without expecting anything in return.

Collaboration is the opposite of cooperation. Cooperation is a barter system because human beings expect something when they cooperate with each other. Collaboration is different as there are no expectations when one collaborates. In classic stripes they all take an objective which is someone else’s who is of a completely different department or division of the one they're at. And they work hard to help them achieve the same without expecting anything in return! That is Classic Stripes DNA!
