Sony PSP2 to have Quad-core ARM Cortex-A9, available by next Christmas

Category: Tablets, Other

Sony unveiled their next generation Playstation Portable console at an event in Tokyo. They say it is as powerful as the PS3:

Here are the specs:

Doesn’t run Android Honeycomb UI between gaming? My guess memory expansion is SDXC cards? Sony could sell this $500+ thus sell it through carriers subsidized? The first Sony 5″ OLED screen? How does it compare with Samsung’s Super AMOLED Plus? HDMI output to actually use this as home console? Playstation Suite means all PSP/PS/PS2 games to come to all Android devices? Subscription plan for official access to unlimited games?

If anyone knows where to find the full length official video of this whole Sony event, please post the link in the comments.

Which ARM Processor is in the Nintendo 3DS?

Category: Gaming, Other

A Nintendo 3DS has been leaked on a Chinese forum, they immediately posted teardown pictures, I am trying to find out what type of ARM Processor Nintendo has decided to use for their next pocketable gaming console. When Nintendo upgrades a console it’s a big deal, as that platform is expected to sell upwards hundreds of millions of units and keep selling for several years after its release which is in February/March, Nintendo are known to choose slower components to keep their costs down and aim for long-term reliability over short-term spec bragging. I already posted the features that I think Nintendo should use, including Android OS, downloadable subscription games, HDMI output, wireless modem module and more. Anyone know what processor it may have? As you can see the processor has a Nintendo logo on it, but that does not mean it’s a Nintendo processor. Please post in the comments what your speculation is for this processor.

According to some rumors, Nintendo 3DS specs may be:

ARM Processor: Dual-core 266 MHz
GPU: 133 MHz
RAM: 64 MB
Video RAM: 4 MB
Storage: 1.5 GB (SDXC expansion slot?)

New smart refrigerator based on ARM

Posted by – November 26, 2010
Category: Other, Freescale

The brazilian subsidiary of Electrolux, together with ProFUSION Embedded Systems, have developed a new smart refrigerator called Infinity I-Kitchen that runs on a Freescale i.MX25 processor and was developed using Linux and the Enlightenment Foundation Libraries.

Here are features that could be provided in these intelligent fridges:
1. One-click wirelessly add missing ingredients to your Android device’s shopping list. Could also automatically place order for refill or for new ingredients with remote groceries delivery service.
2. It should somehow know what you have in the fridge. Preferably RFID would be used, but since that is not yet available. Somehow it should know. Maybe a built-in camera could figure from normal bar codes scanning, or manual input can be simplified.
3. Generate suggested recipes based on ingredients available, based on perrumption dates, based on calculating a healthy varied diet for each member of the house hold.

More info here, with links to screenshots and a virtual reality demo.
