Toshiba W30t 13.3″ Laptop and Tablet Hybrid with Detachable Screen

Posted by – September 6, 2013

The first product shown was a Toshiba W30t which is a hybrid laptop and tablet with a detachable screen. The W30t runs on the Windows 8 platform. Similar to other laptop hybrids the W30t keyboard docks includes an additional battery and can achieve up to 10 hours of battery life with the dock plugged in and 5 hours with it removed. The W30t has a 13.3″ touchscreen with an unspecified “HD” (probably 1366×768) resolution. Unlike other tablets and ultrabooks the W30t doesn’t have a ssd and instead has a conventional hard drive. The product comes with either Intel Core processors or AMD APU’s. The price should be 750 USD starting price for the Toshiba and even less with an AMD processor. Expect a Q4 2013 release.

Asus Transformer Book Trio, super expensive dual-x86 machine

Posted by – June 3, 2013

Here’s Asus’s latest extremely overpriced quite useless use of Android on top of a Wintel machine, using the latest most expensive Intel processor, and instead of using ARM on the Android mode, for no good reason, Asus makes yet another Intel x86 mistake, there’s yet another Intel Atom for Android mode. This over-expensive Intel Asus machine is probably going to cost $1500 and nobody is going to buy it. But here again, Johnny Shy likes to use the time of world media to show off yet another concept that is not going to interest nearly anyone. Good thing the Intel CEO has just been replaced, what the purpose is for this type of product is quite remote. Is Asus going to sell more than a few thousand of these overpriced quickly outdated devices worldwide?

Microsoft Windows 8 RT at Next Berlin

Posted by – May 9, 2013

I’m asking Microsoft Germany’s Windows Product Marketing Manager Boris Schneider-Johne some questions about the status of Windows RT, I also ask about the Android competition, RT vs Pro market share, everything on Windows RT is encrypted, Surface RT is his secondary computer (Photoshop/Ligthroom doesn’t run on RT), how often does RT crash? Connected Standby (gets latest info all the time through Connected Standby API), and I even ask questions which he obviously can’t answer, about Microsoft claiming ownership over Android (announcing certain Microsoft Partner Android companies paying Microsoft a licence for Android) Cheaper Windows RT? $299 instead of $599? 13.3″ RT? 7″ RT? 8″ RT? and the idea of making a Metro UI for Android (he says it can’t work).

Yifang Digital Touch Pen turns your regular screen into a touch screen

Posted by – April 26, 2013

Especially useful during the transition to Windows 8 on Laptops and Desktops, Yifang has developed a digital pen to turn your regular screen into a touch screen. The pen sends signals to a receiver, which simulates touch screen interactions. The units have been mass produced since October 2012. The product sells in Japan, Europe and the United States. The price is $80 and works for screens smaller than 26″.

Viewsonic VSD241 24″ and VSD220 22″ All-in-one Android Computers

Posted by – March 3, 2013

You get the full Android 4.1 Jelly Bean experience on the 24″ Viewsonic VSD241 1080p display running on a Tegra3 quad-core ARM Cortex-A9 processor and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich on the 22″ Viewsonic VSD220 1080p display running on the OMAP4430 dual-core ARM Cortex-A9. The price of integrating the ARM SoC with Android is perhaps not much more than selling the touch screen display by itself, and with the HDMI input and USB you can connect any Windows 8 Laptop or Desktop to this screen to thus use the same large touch screen to also use Windows 8.

Kopin Golden-i 3.8 headmounted ARM Powered wearable computer for augmented video-blogging

Posted by – January 13, 2013

Kopin presents their new next generation wearable computer, headmounted hands-free interface micro-display connected device. This time it’s lighter, more compact, runs on a much faster OMAP4470, interfaces with Verizon’s LTE network, runs longer on a smaller battery, has a new higher-resolution micro-display, has a new better design. The Golden-i 3.8 is being released through Verizon in the USA during the next few months, through Vodafone in Europe, there are also potential carrier distributors for India and China. The use is industrial such as for using wearable computers for firefighters, police, doctors, mechanics, construction workers, military and more. The use can also be for all professionals and enthusiasts and early adopters of wearable computing.

During CES 2013, I was live video-streaming to a Google+ Hangout while reading the live IRC chat in the Golden-i headmounted display, that custom Google+ Hangouts and IRC chat functionality was programmed for me by Dave Hollick of Ikanos Consulting. This is just scratching the surface of what thishardware can do. With Android support coming to the Golden-i within a couple months, the whole Google+ Hangouts app and IRC apps can be made to run directly within the Golden-i, with voice-commands and voice dictation to live-blog, live-post to Google+ and live-tweet hands-free, for rapidly increasing the capabilities of ones headmounted hands-free Augmented Video-blogging setup.

This is how I video-blog.

As Google’s Project Glass approaches early public testing phases, the enthusiasm for wearable computing is rapidly ramping up during 2013, I think that we can expect some really amazing things to become possible and usable using these types of wearable computing. Check back in the weeks and months to come on http://ARMdevices.net for much more coverage of the real useful usage of wearable computers with the Kopin Golden-i representing the forefront of what we can expect.
