Is this the Pixel Qi Google Chromebook for long battery life and outdoor usability? 12.85″ 2560×1700 resolution touch screen? ARM Cortex-A15 preferably big.LITTLE, is this a Texas Instruments OMAP5 powered or does Samsung provide Google with an Octa Exynos5 for Chromebook already?

What do you think the price is going to be? My guess is $100 for non-touch non-Retina version and $200 for touch Retina version. The goal to basically make the ARM Powered Chrome OS the number 1 OS for laptops/desktops worldwide.

OLPC XO Tablet, XO Learning System launched

Giulia D’Amico, Vice President of Business Development at One Laptop per Child Association (OLPCA) launches the OLPC XO Learning System, a user interface optimized for Children’s learning on Android Tablets. Vivitar is licencing XO Learning to launch their first OLPC XO Tablet in all WalMart stores in the USA by the end of Spring 2013. The initial Vivitar OLPC XO tablet features a 1.6Ghz dual-core (my guess Rockchip RK3066), 1024×600 screen, and the price is going to be very competitive (perhaps $99?), the target for WalMart is to reach all the Children in the USA in the next few months with this OLPC XO Tablet.

Every child has dreams and XO Learning directs the child’s passion, creativity and energy for these dreams into a new user interface that has 12 dreams. Such dreams include “I want to be” an artist, a musician and a scientist. Each dream features a rich learning experience and applications, books, games and videos that allow children ages 3 to 12 to naturally explore their dreams and learn at the same time.

“The challenge in computing and education is to use the technology to develop new ways for children to learn. The rich content of the dreams allows the child’s natural passion to be directed into learning experiences,” said Giulia D’Amico, the lead designer of XO Learning. OLPCA teamed with the legendary designer Yves Behar of Fuse Project and his team to create the XO Learning user interface and cover.

The content in XO Learning has been curated and selected for age-appropriateness and learning value by OLPCA, in collaboration with Common Sense Media, the leading non-profit organization dedicated to helping parents and teachers make informed decisions about media. Common Sense Media offers more than 18,000 media ratings and reviews based on both robust educational research and child development guidelines. XO Learning also offers a full range of parental controls and user IDs for up to three children, a dashboard where the child or the parent can review usage, types of content and the skills the child is developing. Press a single icon and XO Learning switches from English to Spanish with all new content depending on the language. Additional languages will be available in future releases.

OLPC XO-4 Touch Unboxing

Giulia D’Amico, OLPC Vice President of Business Development, unboxes and talks about the all-new XO-4 Touch One Laptop Per Child laptop, featuring the new Marvell Armada PXA2128 dual-core 1.2Ghz 40nm processor, Marvell 8787 WiFi chip and the Neonode IR Touch touchscreen technology. The OLPC XO-4 Touch now also features a HDMI output. Currently still running Fedora Linux based Sugar OS, the OLPC is thinking to port Sugar to Android to use on all OLPC Laptop/Tablet devices during 2013. Thus far, OLPC has shipped over 2.8 Million Laptops to children in schools worldwide. Australia is going to be the first country to deploy over 55 thousand OLPC XO-4 Touch laptop/tablets in the months to come.

Marvell presents OLPC XO-4 Touch and $30 Smile Plug Server for Schools

Marvell shows off the new OLPC XO-4 powered by the Marvell PXA2128 dual-core 1.2Ghz, Marvell 8787, and uses Neonode IR touch screen technology to thus add touch functionality to the One Laptop Per Child XO-4 laptop. Performance is thus increased and battery life further improved by using this latest 40nm process node Marvell ARM Processor in the upgrade.

The XO 4.0 is powered by the Marvell ARMADA PXA2128. Optimized by ARM v7 high-performance mobile processors with Hybrid-SMP technology at up to 1.2GHz, the PXA2128 reduces power consumption by roughly half and enables an extended battery life thanks to a low-power mobile (LPM) processor.

Kopin Golden-i 3.8 headmounted ARM Powered wearable computer for augmented video-blogging

Kopin presents their new next generation wearable computer, headmounted hands-free interface micro-display connected device. This time it’s lighter, more compact, runs on a much faster OMAP4470, interfaces with Verizon’s LTE network, runs longer on a smaller battery, has a new higher-resolution micro-display, has a new better design. The Golden-i 3.8 is being released through Verizon in the USA during the next few months, through Vodafone in Europe, there are also potential carrier distributors for India and China. The use is industrial such as for using wearable computers for firefighters, police, doctors, mechanics, construction workers, military and more. The use can also be for all professionals and enthusiasts and early adopters of wearable computing.

During CES 2013, I was live video-streaming to a Google+ Hangout while reading the live IRC chat in the Golden-i headmounted display, that custom Google+ Hangouts and IRC chat functionality was programmed for me by Dave Hollick of Ikanos Consulting. This is just scratching the surface of what thishardware can do. With Android support coming to the Golden-i within a couple months, the whole Google+ Hangouts app and IRC apps can be made to run directly within the Golden-i, with voice-commands and voice dictation to live-blog, live-post to Google+ and live-tweet hands-free, for rapidly increasing the capabilities of ones headmounted hands-free Augmented Video-blogging setup.

Archos launches their new TV Set-top-box system based on the dual-core Texas Instruments OMAP4470 with SGX544 GPU, it features a HD webcam, Ethernet, HDMI output, USB Host, Bluetooth 4.0 low-power support, (probably Miracast support), runs Android 4.1 and everything that also runs on Archos’s latest 101/97 XS Generation 10 series. You can use Archos new Bluetooth 4.0 remote and you can also use any other Bluetooth game controller from Xbox360/PS3/Wii and you can use any Bluetooth or RF/USB Keyboard and mice also for controls. The price is $129.

Archos Gamepad, $169 available in the USA starting in February

Phil Geldard of Archos shows and talks about the release of the Archos Gamepad on the US market, scheduled to happen in February 2013 at the price of $169 MSRP. Archos has been trying to ramp up mass manufacturing to be able to deliver to supply the huge demand worldwide that there is for this really cool product. When Archos started selling the device in Europe before Christmas, they sold out of all of their European stock in 4 hours after making it available on their website. Archos hasn’t experienced such strong demand for a product since they launched their Gen8 Donut/Eclair/Froyo Cortex-A8 Android tablets in 2010. I know I’ll be playing all my favorite N64 games on this device in the months to come, as well as any really cool new Android games that I may find.

E Ink expects to ship massive amounts of smartphone sized E Ink screens starting this year. The first type has E Ink as the main display. The second type has the E Ink as the secondary display on the back-side of the smartphone behind the LCD or AMOLED screen in the front.

Yota Devices E Ink and LCD dual-mode Android Phone

Here’s the YotaPhone, the first dual-mode Android phone that works on LCD and E Ink at the same time on each side of the phone. Yota has developed a few customizations and a new SDK to either just send screenshots of anything that’s on Android over to E Ink or to also enable interactivity on the E Ink side, such as flipping pages with their swipe gestures at the capacitive bottom that is on each side of the device. Expected delivery is to be between Q2 and Q3 2013, Yota Devices is a Russian company but the market for this dual mode E Ink and LCD phone can be worldwide.

What Google’s Motorola R&D may be working on…

The Wall Street Journal has an article out talking about the Google X Phone project and its technical challenges. I think that Google Motorola has a lot of work to do. Here are some of the projects that I expect Google to be investing in at Motorola to move Android forward in terms of R&D hardware spending, how Google may be trying to control and influence worldwide components supply for the next months and years of mobile devices development:

1. Dominate worldwide sub-$100 phone market. Target the sub-$200 Android phone market too. Target all world countries, not just rich countries. This is how Motorola “easily” can get to scale and thus get to control smartphones components supply.

2. Design devices that merge Android with Chrome OS and Google TV. That means re-engineer and re-think Motorola’s Laptop Dock, Desktop Dock, Entertainment Dock, when you dock Android 5 thus switches to Chrome OS or Google TV depending on what you want on the external display.

3. Design flexible phones using rubber-like and leather-like materials. As soon as flexible screen suppliers are ready (not just Samsung’s flexible AMOLED), have designs ready to use the new form factors.

4. E Ink phones, be it like the Motorola Fone released in 2006 with an E Ink display, the new E Ink phones use Android. Can be E Ink only Android phones and Android phones where just the backside is an E Ink display.

5. Integrate DLP pico projector technologies in new phone concepts that project something like a 20″ touch-screen display onto any table. Thus design kick-stands, mirrors, lenses that facilitate that.

6. Google Glass, headmounted computing is going to be the new normal next year. Optimize the Motorola headmounted computer to fit every usage, design it so everyone wants to use them.

7. Wearable computing. Android Bluetooth wrist watches, Bluetooth headsets that merge into clothing for voice calls. Make every user feel like they are James Bond.

8. Mass market White Spaces modems and routers, small and low power enough to be included in every new Android smartphone and tablet. Cheap enough so that every ADSL/Cable/Fiber connection install a White Spaces router to quickly cover the whole world with free wireless broadband for everyone.

9. Mass producing Pixel Qi LCD based smartphones, tablets and laptops, for sunlight readablility and to extend battery life significantly.

10. New $100 ARM Powered Tablets for productivity. New $100 ARM Powered Laptops for productivity. Google and Motorola can take over some of the role of the One Laptop Per Child. These new devices are for the worlds children to use to make the world a better place.

Google Wildfire social media marketing at LeWeb 2012

Wildfire is one of the leaders in social media marketing for all the worlds big and small brands. 30 of the world’s top-50 brands use wildfire for their social media marketing campaigns. For example when Coca-cola does something on Facebook, there is a good chance that they are using Wildfire’s software and solutions.
