Christophe Arviset, ESA Gaia and Euclid Missions Online Data Sharing

Posted by – May 9, 2017

Christophe Arviset is the Head of the Data and Engineering Division at ESA’s European Space Astronomy Centre (ESAC). The European Space Agency’s (ESA) current mission Gaia and upcoming one Euclid will generate massive amounts of astronomical data to be made freely available on-line through powerful data management systems. This big data era brings a change of paradigm and associated big challenges for building these missions’ archives. The current use case of “bring the data to the user” is being replaced by the new concept of “bring the user to the data”. This new generation of science archives is transforming into science exploitation and collaborative platforms, where the users can send her/his code to the data, run it on computing and storage services provided directly by the archive (where the data reside), and easily share all this with other scientists they’re collaborating with.

You can watch Christophe Arviset’s keynote at Linaro Connect here:

SMT Line Tour, USB Type-C Hub, 6-in-1 Colorii PocketHub

Posted by – April 28, 2017

This is the SMT Line and testing process for the Colorii PocketHub, with 3 times full function testing for every USB Type-C hub after SMT and DIP. The 1st test is 100% current testing to check out if there is any shortcut on the PCBA, they set 5V on the current equipment and connect the PCBA by Type C port, if the current is above 0.02A, that means the PCBA have circurt problem, then they send it back to production, the 2nd test is 100% full function test of each port, HDMI, SD card, micro-SD card, 2xUSB 3.0A, specially for the USB Type-C fast charge! They test every unit on a Macbook. The 3rd test is after assembly with case, they do the same test of PCBA again (100% for every pieces, full function), to confirm every pieces work perfectly before shipping to the customer. Posted by – April 15, 2017

Onyx unveils the world’s first 13.3″ Flexible high-resolution E Ink Carta device, for the first time shown to the public, with an amazing 2200×1650 resolution, fast handwriting for annotations and notes, beautiful rendering of A4 documents, pdf, epub and any other formats compatible with e-readers on Android. This is just one of the whole range of E Ink Carta devices shown by Onyx, they also have 6″ devices, 6.8″, 9.7″ and the 10.3″ device and the 9.7″ ONYX Typewriter that I also filmed in this other Onyx video, ONYX also shows that it will be possible to mirror or extend a laptop display (or any other HDMI source) onto an upcoming 13.3″ ONYX device and also ONYX has an amazing 9.7″ ultra-light device with capacitive buttons in the works featured at the end of this video.

Onyx E Ink Laptop and 10.3″ Flexible E Ink Mobius Reader, Onyx Typewriter and Onyx 10.3″ Boox Buddy

Posted by – April 15, 2017

Onyx Typewriter has up to 25 days battery life in use (up to 50+ days battery life in standby according to Onyx), it is the world’s first E Ink Laptop. The screen can be perfect to type texts outdoors, during the day in the sunlight, in the park, on your boat, on your balcony, on the beach, to get some natural sunlight while doing work! Of course the E Ink Laptop cannot replace your existing laptop, this is why a smart UI is going to be required. Onyx Typewriter runs Android so a smart app/instance could potentially make this great.

Onyx 10.3″ BOOX Buddy from Onyx (at 7min27sec in this video) is one of the most amazing E Ink devices that I have even seen, amazingly light, thin, the E Ink display is flexible! Flush with the bezels, has a digitizer annotations support and capacitive touch, extremely beautiful and check how quick the stylus input is, it feels nearly like writing with a pen on paper!

These new awesome Onyx devices are two of the coolest new devices in the world. Here are just two, but there is more (check my other Onyx video featuring Onyx BOOX Max Carta 13.3″ 2200×1650 Flexible E Ink device here) could enter mass production and be released in the months to come, when they can be perfected for release. Hopefully the price for these will be affordable, that might depend on the popularity and demand for these special E Ink displays, as the highest cost of these devices is the E Ink display and E Ink prices their displays cheaply only if the volumes are going to be big enough.
