Lenovo Stacked modular accessories – projector, HDD, WiFi, Qi wireles charge

Chad Kresser of Lenovo demonstrates the ThinkPad Stack concept, a device that is modular by design to allow for accessories to be stacked on to it. This display unit features stacked units for functions such as additional power (battery pack), storage capacity (1TB HDD), and sound (Bluetooth speakers). The stackable projector features 150lumen brightness, 720p video resolution, and uses a RealTek ARM CPU, and 16GB of onboard storage. The inbuilt battery lasts 2 hours, going up to 8 with the power bank. Prices for the WiFi access point and HDD (sold as a kit) is US$200, the power bank is US$50, the Bluetooth speaker is US$90.

Panacast 2 – Panoramic 4K video conferencing

Panacast 2 is a panoramic video camera meant to be used primarily for video conferencing. It outputs half-width 4K resolution (3840×1080) over a 180 (horizontal) and 54 (vertical) field of view over USB. It supports all the major video conferencing software that support USB cameras: Skype, WebEx, Google Hangouts, Vidyo etc. Needing no additional drivers to run, it features 3 cameras at different angles whose output is stitched together. Including the ISP, USB controller and camera sensors, the unit features 9 processors working in sync. Panacast 2 costs US$995 and is now available.

Ween smart thermostat

Ween is a south France-based company that has on display their smart thermostat. It connects to up to 16 smartphones (house residents) that are then tracked over a period of time, with temperature maintained at a preset level. Since the thermostat knows how long it takes to reach a certain temperature, it switches on appliances at home accordingly. Ween also features inbuilt machine learning capabilities to anticipate and respond to unplanned absences of the members. It goes on sale for US$350 along with a gateway device paired via RF.

Weccan mini toy drones and toy cars from $15

Weccan Toys makes 12000 drone per month. Their mini model costs US$15 and is seen here in orange colour, flying about the booth. The bigger model sells for US$65 and their most popular model sells for US$27. They have their own R&D team in charge of developing new products every year. They also have on display their toy cars.

Longhorn Android Point of Sale units with card swipe and dual display feature

Shenzhen Longhorn Technology Co Ltd shows here their Android-running Point-of-Sale (PoS) unit for commercial use. The unit features integrated card swipe reader, and a battery that can last for 8-10 hours. Battery life depends on usage, and there is also a dual-screen solution with the secondary display facing the customer so that it can be used for PIN entry.

Neuromatrix Quell natural chronic pain relief device

The Quell is a device from Boston, Massachusetts-based Neuromatrix that claims to have brought relief for chronic pain to 81% of their users. The device involves the main unit bing put into a belt that has space for electrical contacts. These are used with a gel-based pad on the other side and wrapped around one’s leg to deliver mild electrical pulses that trigger release of natural pain blockers from the brain. It costs US$249 and is currently on sale only in Canada and the US. The device also includes an optional app for advanced sleep tracking functions.

EmFit QS Connection free sleep tracker

Heiki Raisanen, CEO of Emfit, displays their QS sleep tracker device meant to be placed under mattresses (tested up to 30cm thick). Using quasi-peizoelectric and ferroelectric sensors in the belt, it detects/displays heart rate, breathing rate, and sleep quality amongst other factors on the accompanying app. It is available now in US and Europe for US$299.

4K 360degree camera with 4 lenses

Equipped with 4 cameras in different directions, this camera runs Android and records 4K@30fps360° video at H.264 decode. Using 4pcs 2.4MP sensors from Sony, the camera also has a microSD card slot (support up to 128GB), and 2 microUSB connectors on the USB 2.0 specification. The OLED display on top of the camera displays vital information. Inside is an FPGA developed by a Taiwan-based manufacturer.

The power meter inside the device measures power consumption from the air conditional. Also on display are their other IoT devices such as smart bulbs, WiFi products, and their USB-powered Macbee IoT gateway that can connect up to 128 devices.

Jezetek E Ink + LCD dual-display smartphone

Jezetek shows their new smartphone with a 5.2″ LCD and a 4.7″ E Ink display on the back, enables up to 2 weeks of battery life when only the e-ink display is used. The two displays are mirrored and one can transfer to either at any point of time. The price will be about $300 for 1000 pieces order. The company also demonstrates their e-ink 9.7” tablet that includes a stylus for drawing or writing.

Cathy from Yifang Digital shows their ZigBee gateway that drives the smart devices such as a temperature sensor, light, water leak sensor, fan etc. The company develops smart home solutions and chose ZigBee because of widespread support amongst other OEMs and low power consumption. They have partnered with Lenovo, who sells their products under the brand “Nexturn”.

Fazein Acton Global, a Silicon Valley-based startup, has on demo their Rocket Skates, a pair of powered skates that run on rechargeable batteries and allow the wearer to move faster. The skates are available in different models differentiated only by price and battery runtime. Prices start at US$399 for the cheapest model.

Rapiro is a humanoid robot kit that includes 12 servo motors, RGB LED lights for the “eyes”, an Arduino base (upgradeable to Raspberry Pi) to bring robotics to the masses. The kit can be used out of the box even without any programming. The kit is available for around $400 in Japan.

Tokyo-based Aroma Bit showcases their odor imaging sensor technology, they claim to be able to make a unique sensor to analyze the subjective matter of smell, rather than simply to analyze the contents of the gas. The setup on display shows how a bottle opened nearby produces a digital odor signature on the screen. The sensor prototype is mounted on an SD card. The device learns about the signature of each smell it encounters, becoming smarter.

Murata smart Glasses, Sabae X Murata, to control home appliances

Smart glasses are a big draw for Murata: the sunglasses shown here are to be used to control home appliances. The company representative demonstrates the switching of a light on or off using controls mounted on the side of the glasses, where they would rest on the ears, along the side. It features Bluetooth, pressure sensor and Infrared.

Sony crowdfunded Wena Smartwatch

The Wena Wrist is a smart watch that offers notifications through vibrations and a small LED light on the band, wallet payment compatible with the Japan-only Felica standard, and can go for as long as a week between charges. The watch itself is a typical analogue watch (available with a chronograph face) and so it can go on for much longer. The wena wrist charges through its own proprietary cradle.

GeoCV 3D capture to virtual reality

Based in Moscow, Russia, GeoCV is a software platform aiming to bring VR-calibre 3D modelling to the mass market. The highlight is the hardware-agnostic platform, implemented currently on a Project Tango device that is used to show a real estate company’s website with a home being displayed. GeoCV is looking beyond, to implement their platform on next-generation phones so that shooting in 3D is the same as shooting with a 2D camera (without special hardware.)
