When evaluating server hardware for storage deployment, power efficiency is a critical consideration. While ARM processors like the high-core-count Ampere Altra are known for energy efficiency, Ambedded observes that AMD-based x86 servers can demonstrate comparable power profiles under certain configurations. In high-density storage setups, the CPU or SoC is only one component of overall power draw, with significant consumption and heat dissipation also originating from the storage media—particularly NVMe SSDs and hard disk drives—as well as networking interfaces and controllers inside the chassis.

The Ambedded solution combines open-source Ceph storage infrastructure with a structured service model to ease deployment complexity. The engagement starts with initial consultancy to architecture planning, specifying CPU, memory, networking, disk drives, and server layouts tailored to the client’s application workload. Ambedded then performs the initial software deployment, followed by annual technical support covering troubleshooting, hardware integration, and performance optimization.

By separating the management plane from the open-source Ceph data plane, the in-house UVS Manager GUI simplifies day-to-day operations and cluster monitoring without locking clients into proprietary hardware configurations. Customers maintain complete control over their hardware selection and drive purchasing, which is particularly beneficial given the rising costs and supply fluctuations of storage components.
