In China, the 55″ 4K TV now sells for $1100!!!!!!!! Dreams come true! We’re all about to get a 4K TV (this one is the Konka KKTV LED55K60U). Android Set-top-box leader Shenzhen Geniatech shows me here their ATV1800 on AmLogic Quad-core M802 with Eight-core Mali-450 to actually playback 4K video over HDMI. This is the beginning of the Ultra HD future, on Android Box, here beautifully showing off this amazingly affordable new Konka KKTV LED55K60U 55″ 4K TV sold for only $1100 all over China!!!! The trick of course is how we in the future will get 4K video contents, the trick I think is to stream it all from the web. I believe most movies of this last century are or can be digitized and made available in 4K streaming as soon as movie studios and cinemateques around the world make the 4K version of all 35mm-sourced or often 4K-digital (for movies filmed in the last 5 or so years) movies available. How much bandwidth does one need for good 4K video streaming? My guess is 20mbitps may be enough, even less sometimes if the 4K comes from YouTube and Netflix, while a good 4K streaming provider should scale above 20mbitps if your home Internet connection for example has 50mbitps, 100mbitps downstream speed or above.

AmLogic shows their new M802 Quad-core ARM Cortex-A9 (28nm TSMC) with 8-core Mali-450 GPU, showcased in the new Geniatech ATV580 4K Set-top-box, 7.85″ Tablets, 9.7″ Retina tablets, 13.3″ Laptops and more, all running Android 4.3 with mostly 2GB RAM and 4K video playback support. AmLogic claims to provide higher benchmark scores than competing quad-core Rockchip and Allwinner solutions on the market. The AmLogic M802 has dual-channel DDR3 RAM for 4K and Retina screens while the AmLogic M801 has a single-channel DDR3 RAM support for lower resolution devices without 4K support.

Allwinner announced their upcoming Allwinner A80 Octa-core with four ARM Cortex-A15 cores and four ARM Cortex-A7 cores configured in a big.LITTLE configuration, the release to happen around Q1 2014. As well as the Allwinner A70 Quad-core (2x Cortex-A15 and 2x Cortex-A7), and for later, Allwinner already announces that they will release a 64bit ARMv8 ARM Cortex-A57 and ARM Cortex-A53 big.LITTLE processor, perhaps for later in 2014 or for early 2015. For the first time, Allwinner shows the Chrome logo, Windows 8 (probably meaning Windows RT), this means the Allwinner A80 may be good to use in mass market affordable Chromebooks, cheap Windows RT laptops and desktops and more. In current market we have one HDMI transmitter and one receiver we call it as one-to-one, Here is the product which is four channel transmitter i.e. one transmitter and 4 receivers. Rockchip shows H.265 and WebM VP9 video decoding on RK3188

Rockchip shows the world’s first H.265 and VP9 advanced video playback on their Rockchip RK3188 processor. Right now Rockchip is doing this software based decoding, with potential support for hardware based decoding coming later. This shows how the Rockchip RK3188 Quad-core ARM Cortex-A9 is fast enough to do such advanced software based video decoding. In the future, even Rockchip’s single-core and dual-core will support H.265 and VP9 codec, the goal is to have 1080p software based playback on RK3188 and 720p support on the Rockchip’s dual and single-core. The H.265 and VP9 support is added with a patch with no need to do a full firmware flash upgrade. The new H.265 HEVC and the WebM VP9 codecs can potentially save something like half the bitrate and file size at the same video quality.
