IEEE launches the P1784 Standard for Documentation Schema for Repair and Assembly of Electronic Devices for users and the industry working together to make all devices easily repairable by people themselves by just looking up how to fix everything online. Standard for documentation for showing how to take devices apart and fix it one self, without needing to send devices back for repair, but also enabling more repair centers to be opened up everywhere.

HP Chromebook 11 launched $279, Exynos5250 (dual-core ARM Cortex-A15, Mali-T604)
Yes! The Second ARM Chromebook is now released for $279, made by HP. But wait, still same Exynos5250? Why no Octa? Isn’t that the exact same Exynos5 Dual processor Samsung used in Samsung Chromebook released a year ago? Maybe it’s tweaked. This HP Chromebook 11 sounds to have a better IPS display, better build quality perhaps, MicroUSB charging (is it a 5A or at least 2A MicroUSB charger?) The really good news is that Samsung is providing its Exynos5 for ARM Chromebooks by third parties, such as the huge HP. It would be nicest to see Exynos5420 in there though. 28nm vs 32nm, Octa big.LITTLE vs Dual, Mali-T628 vs Mali-T604, 1.9Ghz vs 1.7Ghz, etc.

Toshiba Dynabook Kira
The Toshiba Dynabook Kira was presented at CEATEC. It has most of the basic specs of an ultrabook but with a high resolution 2560×1600 display. Each display is individually color calibrated at the factory itself. The price is a very steep 1600 USD. The Dynabook Kira is the successor the z830 series and features an upgraded more durable design. The benchmarked battery life is 9.5 hours which is about 1.5 times the battery of the previous model.
Toshiba Satellite ND15t
The Toshiba Satellite ND15t offers a conventional laptop form factor with a touchscreen. Specs include a 11.6″ HD (1366×768) Touch screen, Intel Pentium or Celeron processors and a variety of full sized ports. Expect pricing to be around 399 Euro which would make it one of the cheapest touchscreen laptops on the market. Includes HDMI, USB 3.0, and an 802.11n Wi-Fi.

Toshiba W30t 13.3″ Laptop and Tablet Hybrid with Detachable Screen
The first product shown was a Toshiba W30t which is a hybrid laptop and tablet with a detachable screen. The W30t runs on the Windows 8 platform. Similar to other laptop hybrids the W30t keyboard docks includes an additional battery and can achieve up to 10 hours of battery life with the dock plugged in and 5 hours with it removed. The W30t has a 13.3″ touchscreen with an unspecified “HD” (probably 1366×768) resolution. Unlike other tablets and ultrabooks the W30t doesn’t have a ssd and instead has a conventional hard drive. The product comes with either Intel Core processors or AMD APU’s. The price should be 750 USD starting price for the Toshiba and even less with an AMD processor. Expect a Q4 2013 release.
Cambrios is revolutionizing the touch screen industry, interview with their CMO
One of the revolutionary new touch screen technologies is created by Cambrios, it’s their ClearOhm® Silver Nanowires, that is now the leading candidate for replacing ITO in touch applications and making strides also in OLED lighting, Organic Photo Voltaic cells, electronic displays and others. At IFA, I interviewed Sri Peruvemba who was very excited about the prospects for the technology. Cambrios ClearOhm technology is replacing ITO not only in applications where ITO cannot play (large monitors, All-In-One computers and upcoming flexible/unbreakable tablets, phones and other devices) but also in applications like tablets and laptops and mobile phones where ITO is dominant. They already have many products in the field (see my video with Cambrios from Computex in Taiwan) and are expecting more tier one design wins to be announced in the near future. Already it’s public that companies like Samsung, Nissha are investors in Cambrios ClearOhm, that the worlds biggest touch screen maker TPK is building a new factory to build Cambrios ClearOhm based touch screens and that Hitachi is also a customer. The ClearOhm product has better transmission than ITO on film, has better conductivity (since silver conducts 100 times better than Indium), is made on flexible plastic material that is 40% thinner and 40% lighter than traditional touch screens, can enable flexible touch screens that ITO cannot since it is brittle, and it is very rugged. The Silver Nanowires from Cambrios is almost invisible in the touch screen, I could not see any pattern or moire that you would see with other technologies like metal mesh and ITO. Also the Cambrios CMO says that they are price competitive even with inferior technologies, that is amazing. During my interview I examined the touch sensors and could not see any pattern visibility. This is why they are winning new business. How fast Cambrios ClearOhm is going to take over the whole worldwide touch panel market is unsure, Cambrios says that they can produce enough silver nanowire material to be in all 1 Billion smartphones to be sold in 2014 if the markets and if the touch screen device producers demand it. I would definitely like to see hundreds of millions of cheaper, lighter, flexible/unbreakable plastics based Cambrios ClearOhm based Smartphone and Tablet designs invade the whole worldwide market as soon as next year!

Tegra4 Asus Transformer Pad Infinity, $399 2560×1600 Sharp (IGZO?) 10.1″ for Q3
Latest Asus Transformer on Tegra4 Quad-core ARM Cortex-A15 with a new 2560×1600 high resolution 10.1″ display. Launch is to happen in Q3 this year, they expect the price to be $399 without the Dock, $499 without the Dock. Battery life may be 10 hours even with the high resolution display.
Asus Transformer Book Trio, super expensive dual-x86 machine
Here’s Asus’s latest extremely overpriced quite useless use of Android on top of a Wintel machine, using the latest most expensive Intel processor, and instead of using ARM on the Android mode, for no good reason, Asus makes yet another Intel x86 mistake, there’s yet another Intel Atom for Android mode. This over-expensive Intel Asus machine is probably going to cost $1500 and nobody is going to buy it. But here again, Johnny Shy likes to use the time of world media to show off yet another concept that is not going to interest nearly anyone. Good thing the Intel CEO has just been replaced, what the purpose is for this type of product is quite remote. Is Asus going to sell more than a few thousand of these overpriced quickly outdated devices worldwide?
