Asus Memo Pad HD7, $149 16GB, $129 8GB (developing market only, whatever that means)

Asus launches their new $149 MediaTek MT8125 Quad-core ARM Cortex-A7 with SGX GPU, no HDMI/MHL, but it has a MicroSD card slot, MicroUSB, Audio Jack, battery capacity is big enough for about 10 hours of use depending on use. This is thus not a new Nexus, it’s a new Asus, expect only the higher cost skew to be available, the $129 8GB skew is maybe not going to be much available outside of what Asus considers developing markets.

Simon Electronics shows Allwinner A31 10.1″ for $140 and they show a MediaTek powered Android phone for $47 (I forgot to ask more details) and more. Sells 10-15K phones per month, mostly to South America and Europe.

Here’s a tour of the ICOO Tablet factory, it’s on a Saturday so their 150 workers are at home. They make Rockchip RK3066, Allwinner A31, A31S, A20, A13 for $48, ATM7029 and many other devices in this factory, they can output up to 2000 tablets per day.

Jiayu unveils the Jiayu G4 Android phone, with a 4.7″ 1280×720 screen, it comes with 1GB or 2GB RAM and up to 32GB Flash storage. The worldwide retail price can be around $200-$250 depending on the configuration. Androidguruz is releasing it on the Indian market.

Shenzhen Kinsen Technology focuses on systems with MTK and RockChip processors. They are shipping a 7″ device running the MTK8377 A9 Dual Core 1.2GHz, 3G + GPS, costing $95 in 1K quantity. They were also showing a new unit built with the recently released quad-core RK3188. They ship about 20K units each month.

Shenzhen ACT Industrial http://www.szaction.com/en/index.asp shows 7″ ips displays(1024*600), qualcomm 8225 soc & 3g, android 4.0 ($105/3k pcs), various tablets using qualcomm, mediatek, rockchip and allwinner socs. Allwinner a31 tablet ($140), 8″ w/ metal housing and ips screen ($120/? pcs). ACT sells 150k tablets per month and deals a lot with indonesia and india.

Freelander Link-Create manufactures about 2000 tablets or/and phones per day in this factory in Shenzhen China. Freelander makes and sells a whole range of Allwinner A31, Exynos 4412, MediaTek MT6577/6589 and other tablets and smartphones. But they were just making some MediaTek and Exynos based tablets the day (week-end) I was there. Check back for more on Freelander at http://ARMdevices.net in the next few days. I’m going to try to visit their factory again also while there are more people working making some of these newer devices.

This is perhaps the best looking MediaTek MT6589 quad-core ARM Cortex-A7 phone that I have seen yet out of China. I don’t know where the Vivo brand comes from, but this phone is kind of impressive although it is kind of expensive for a MT6589 phone. It includes DAC audio using on-board Cirus Logic chip which provides quite high quality sound.

Here’s my latest 20-minute steadicam/GH3 walk through the SED Electronics Market in Shenzhen, that building is my favorite in the Shenzhen Huaqiangbei Electronics market area. This is where you can find all the tablets, HDMI sticks and tablet accessories. I film through this market with the Tiffen Steadicam Merlin 2 on arm and vest with the Panasonic GH3 camera and 12-35mm lense.

Here’s a 5.7″ 720p MT6589 Quad-core ARM Cortex-A7 phone sold by HL on the Shenzhen Huaqiangbei market for 1150rmb ($185). This may be a “basic” Sharp display, there may be a higher quality IPS LG display phone of the same size available for about 100rmb more on the Huaqiangbei market.
