This interview looks at an industrial machine-vision camera that integrates Frore Systems AirJet Mini Gen 2 solid-state active cooling to keep an on-board FPGA running at sustained clock rates without resorting to a bulky passive heat sink. The clever mechanical detail is a user-replaceable intake filter, so the camera can stay dustproof and water-resistant while still moving enough air through the enclosure for long runtimes in a factory setting. https://www.froresystems.com/
A key point is back pressure: traditional tiny fans struggle when you add filtration because static pressure collapses, airflow drops, and temperatures rise. AirJet’s pumping approach tolerates higher restriction, so you can design for environmental sealing and serviceability at the same time—more like maintaining an HVAC filter than babying a fan that clogs and slowly derates.
Thermals matter here not only for compute but for image quality. Keeping the sensor and the FPGA thermally stable reduces thermal drift, dark-current noise, and timing variability in the processing pipeline, which is especially relevant for high-frame-rate 4K/60 class workloads and on-camera ISP, compression, or embedded inference. The footage was filmed at CES Las Vegas 2026, but the use case is very much industrial uptime rather than show-floor spectacle.
The other constraint is vibration. In many vision systems, even small vibrations can translate into blur, calibration drift, or mechanical coupling into the optics and chassis, so a vibration-free cooler is attractive when you’re trying to shrink volume and mass without sacrificing reliability. The replaceable filter also turns “dust equals downtime” into a predictable maintenance task that can be scheduled around the environment and duty cycle, year after year if conditions allow.
