Unigraf is a Finnish video electronics testing company focused on ensuring that high-resolution displays, cables and source devices behave exactly as the standards require across DisplayPort, HDMI and USB-C interfaces. Their flagship UCD-500 Gen2 acts as a DisplayPort 2.1 video generator and analyzer, providing UHBR20 link rates, 16K@60 Hz video with DSC and full DP Link Layer and HDCP 2.3 compliance coverage for both sources and sinks, making it a central platform for next-generation graphics and pro-AV qualification. https://www.unigraf.fi/product/ucd-500-gen2/

HDMI® Technology is the foundation for the worldwide ecosystem of HDMI-connected devices; integrated with displays, set-top boxes, laptops, audio video receivers and other product types. Because of this global usage, manufacturers, resellers, integrators and consumers must be assured that their HDMI® products work seamlessly together and deliver the best possible performance by sourcing products from licensed HDMI Adopters or authorized resellers. For HDMI Cables, consumers can look for the official HDMI® Cable Certification Labels on packaging. Innovation continues with the latest HDMI 2.2 Specification that supports higher 96Gbps bandwidth and next-gen HDMI Fixed Rate Link technology to provide optimal audio and video for a wide range of device applications. Higher resolutions and refresh rates are supported, including up to 12K@120 and 16K@60. Additionally, more high-quality options are supported, including uncompressed full chroma formats such as 8K@60/4:4:4 and 4K@240/4:4:4 at 10-bit and 12-bit color.

In this interview, Unigraf walks through how its protocol analyzers and generators are used in R&D labs to debug link-layer issues on DisplayPort, HDMI 2.1 and USB-C DP Alt Mode, from AUX transactions and FRL/UHBR link training to EDID/DisplayID behavior and DSC streams. The UCD-500 Gen2 is part of VESA’s DisplayPort 2.1 authorized test tool list, giving engineers reference-grade sink and source behavior for Link Layer CTS, AdaptiveSync, DSC, FEC and LTTPR testing, while tools like UCD-422 cover HDMI 2.1 up to 10K. Together, these instruments enable precise diagnosis of problems such as flicker, tearing or intermittent cable failures without guesswork in the workflow.

Unigraf also highlights its UTC-274 USB-C automation tester, a 4K USB-C test automation tool designed to sit directly on the production line and electrically verify two USB-C devices in parallel. UTC-274 extends beyond simple continuity checks to cover video, audio, DisplayPort Alt Mode, USB Power Delivery 3.1, USB 2.0/3.2, USB4 mode checking and EPR testing, all scriptable via SDK and Python for fast, repeatable regression test sequences. That means the same interface behavior validated in the lab can be pushed into high-volume manufacturing with ~20-second automated cycles, improving coverage while reducing human error in manufacturing.

Filmed at Embedded World North America, the discussion connects these tools to real-world pain points: vendors turning up with “mystery” HDMI glitches, unstable DP links, problematic cables or new high-bandwidth prototype designs that must pass compliance before launch. Unigraf’s team explains how participation in plugfests and interoperability labs, combined with deep support for 8K, 10K and 16K video modes and emerging use cases like LED video walls and large-scale digital signage, positions their instruments as a bridge between evolving standards and robust, field-ready products. The result is a clearer path from early R&D debug to automated production testing and compliance for the next wave of high-bandwidth video interface rollout.
