Ubuntu is being used around the world, on servers, to power the cloud, switches, routers, base stations and Snappy Ubuntu works on drones, robots and more for the IoT world. Snappy 3.0 will be on Ubuntu 16.04. Ubuntu also shows off Ubuntu on Smartphones, Tablets, and their Nexus 4 showing convergence running “the same” Ubuntu on the phone and on the external display as a dekstop. Murata smart Glasses, Sabae X Murata, to control home appliances

Smart glasses are a big draw for Murata: the sunglasses shown here are to be used to control home appliances. The company representative demonstrates the switching of a light on or off using controls mounted on the side of the glasses, where they would rest on the ears, along the side. It features Bluetooth, pressure sensor and Infrared.

Sony crowdfunded Wena Smartwatch

The Wena Wrist is a smart watch that offers notifications through vibrations and a small LED light on the band, wallet payment compatible with the Japan-only Felica standard, and can go for as long as a week between charges. The watch itself is a typical analogue watch (available with a chronograph face) and so it can go on for much longer. The wena wrist charges through its own proprietary cradle.

Cavium ThunderX 64bit 48-core ARM Server enabling the 5G mobile future, next gen cloud/datacenter and NFV

Cavium’s ThunderX 48-core ARMv8 64bit SoC is being implemented in dozens of ARM Server designs, by partners as Pegatron, Asus, Mitac, Gigabyte, Wiwynn, Acer and even for for super computing by E4 and Cray. Cavium and their software partners have optimized their ARM Server platform for variety of workloads, including NFV (Network Function Virtualization), Cloud RAN (Radio Access Network) for Virtualizing the access network, moving all the physical base stations to the cloud, which will save the industry a lot of money, hyperscale datacenter, web hosting like RunAbove (a subsidiary of OVH) at https://www.runabove.com/armcloud.xml, Ceph storage clusters. This can only be done using ARM and Cavium ThunderX SoC processors, providing a much better TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) and efficient alternative to Intel x86. Cavium and partners, as Linaro and the open source community also are showing progress in the OPNFV, OpenStack, ODP (Open Data Plane), DPDK, fd.io, etc. for the networking and telecom industry.

SONY release the new XPERA family member XPERA Eye at MWC2016, it comes with a tiny and light design, you can even attach it to your T-shirt! It support 180degree 4K video recording and facial and voice detection to capture pictures, but battery life is only 1 hour.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 652, ARM Cortex-A72 available now

Seshu Madhavapeddy, VP of Product Management, responsible for the mobile compute product line at Qualcomm shows us a Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 Powered Tablet, it’s an octa-core quad ARM Cortex-A72 and quad ARM Cortex-A53 on 28nm process node, with Cat6 LTE. The Qualcomm SD652 based tablet is now fully mass produced on the market, can be sold through different brands, with better specs at half the price of the iPad mini. It also features Immersive Audio for 3D audio and Adaptive Display that adjusts the color palette based on the light situation significantly improving the video playback quality, what Qualcomm calls the Tablet Home Theatre on the go experience. Huawei CEO of Consumer says Huawei will overtake Apple in the next 2 years and they expect Huawei to be the number 1 in front of Samsung within 5 years from now. At MWC 2016, Huawei launches their first Intel Microsoft Windows 10 device, the MateBook, with Intel Core M3/M5/M7, with thin design, finger ID on the side, 128-512GB SSD, 4-8GB RAM, priced at $699-$1599 depending on the Intel processor, RAM and SSD choice and the Keyboard dock at $129, the USB Type-C MateDock is $89 extra. European prices are higher. This is not a $499 ARM Powered device. Google didn’t get Android yet to function for productivity (full Chrome on Android). Huawei didn’t force Microsoft to port all Windows 10 to Kirin950 ARM Cortex-A72 big.LITTLE.
