Steve Sperle, head of Consumer Segment Marketing at Freescale, shows us an overview of the product demonstrated at their Suite several new tablet, e-reader, laptops, smartbooks and interactive display implementations of their i.MX515 ARM based processor technology.

Absolutely one of the most awesome press conferences of this year’s CES so far, with Nvidia co-founder Jen-Hsun Huang talking about the huge ambition that Nvidia has with being the worlds first company to introduce ARM Cortex A9 technology with very powerful graphics hardware acceleration for Android Laptops and Tablets and many other devices.

Imagine an ARM Powered Tablet computer with the 10.1″ Pixel Qi screen, where the screen uses plastics instead of glass to be very resistive. Imagine low enough battery usage in transflective mode to power the device for 40 hours even though the less than 1cm in thickness of the Tablet does not allow for much space for the batteries. Imagine a fully optimized use of the Pixel Qi screens reflective abilities where the screen only needs to refresh at the speed of 1hz when in e-reader mode when nothing moves on the screen, with the processor and motherboard also completely shut off and standby to save power when they are not required. But where screen refresh rate and the processor and motherboard can instantly be turned on as soon as they are needed again.
Imagine wireless data technologies based on White Spaces, for free unlimited wireless broadband on the 700mhz spectrum, WiFi Mesh networking and maybe even low power Bluetooth built-in.
Imagine a touch screen technology which would allow for very responsive touchscreen interfaces to accommodate reading, web browsing, typing and playing of games. Yet where the touch screen functions on a plastic screen that is scratch resistant.

This is a 5″ E-Ink reader, an awesome design and a cool user interface, it’s got also accelerometers so you can tilt the screen to read it both vertically and horizontally.
Sony are releasing some new pretty cool touchscreen based E-Ink readers. Here I show you the interface a bit. It seems to work quite alright. All that’s needed now is that they release an unlocked HSDPA and WiFi version runing something like Google Android to add features and basic but optimized Internet text content reading features.

Hanvon shows a 5″ touchscreen E-Ink E-Book reader device. The size of the screen I think could be perfect for the device to be pocketable, if they can just remove all the unecessary screen bezel before the release of this product. The touchscreen feature using the special stylus has also a huge potential in terms of building software features for it once the device is connected to the Internet using WiFi or HSDPA, to enable readers to collaborate online on editing texts, on commenting and building communities of handwritten annotations around texts. A USB or Bluetooth keyboard could then be connected to enter typed annotations as well.
