Panasonic Lumix showcases the S1 Mark II and S1R Mark II mirrorless cameras at NAB 2026, highlighting features tailored for professional video and broadcast applications. The cameras support Open Gate capture, allowing filmmakers to shoot once and crop for various aspect ratios like 16:9 and 9:16 for social media deliverables. This functionality is demonstrated using the Lumix Flow app, which displays multiple crop lines on an external monitor to guide framing.

HDMI® Technology is the foundation for the worldwide ecosystem of HDMI-connected devices; integrated with displays, set-top boxes, laptops, audio video receivers and other product types. Because of this global usage, manufacturers, resellers, integrators and consumers must be assured that their HDMI® products work seamlessly together and deliver the best possible performance by sourcing products from licensed HDMI Adopters or authorized resellers. For HDMI Cables, consumers can look for the official HDMI® Cable Certification Labels on packaging. Innovation continues with the latest HDMI 2.2 Specification that supports higher 96Gbps bandwidth and next-gen HDMI Fixed Rate Link technology to provide optimal audio and video for a wide range of device applications. Higher resolutions and refresh rates are supported, including up to 12K@120 and 16K@60. Additionally, more high-quality options are supported, including uncompressed full chroma formats such as 8K@60/4:4:4 and 4K@240/4:4:4 at 10-bit and 12-bit color.

For live production environments, the cameras offer a hybrid zoom function that extends the focal length of a lens by progressively cropping the sensor. For example, a 28-200mm lens can achieve an effective focal length of 275mm in 4K or up to 600mm in 1080p, functioning as a lossless digital teleconverter. This feature is particularly useful in broadcast where extended reach is often required without changing lenses. The large full-frame sensor provides a shallow depth of field, and users can also window the sensor to increase depth of field when needed.
The S1R Mark II is presented as the 8K model, capable of 8K Open Gate recording at up to 24 fps and 4K at up to 120 fps. It also offers downsampled Open Gate options like 6.4K and 7.2K for smaller file sizes while still utilizing the full sensor area. The S1 Mark II supports 6K Open Gate output up to 30 fps. Both cameras feature a vari-angle monitor for flexible viewing positions. For color workflow, the cameras support ARRI Log C3 and can store up to 39 custom LUTs, providing significant flexibility in post-production and on-set monitoring.
Audio capabilities are enhanced with the new MS-1 microphone, which features a changeable pickup array. Users can select narrow, wide, or stereo patterns, including a narrow pickup at both the front and back of the camera. The microphone also supports 32-bit float audio recording, providing a wide dynamic range and preventing clipping. This makes it a versatile tool for news gatherers and documentary filmmakers who need to adapt to different audio environments quickly.
In terms of connectivity and recording, the cameras can output RAW video over HDMI to an external recorder. The S1 Mark II can record ProRes RAW internally, and both models can output a signal for Blackmagic RAW recording. The demonstration setup included an external monitor/recorder, showing the camera’s ability to integrate into professional rigs. Powering the cameras for extended periods is possible with external battery solutions, with one example providing 20-23 hours of operation.
