The MHL Consortium (Mobile High-Definition Link) shows some of the latest uses for the MHL connector, using Micro-USB to output to HDMI and charge at the same time. Providing up to 7.1 audio and 1080p video. HDMI sticks like the Roku Streaming Stick can charge through the MHL connector.

The MHL-standard must be much better than the Mini-Hdmi standard for Smartphone users!
Because the MHL-standard make it possible to use only ONE contact and cabel instead of two types of connectors.

Simplicity, is the key to the future!

Because of that the micro-USB is so flat it is easier for makers of really flat and large TV- and computer displays. So, the connections on the back can be less bulky.
