Ubiquituous QuickBoot, 1-second Android boot

Posted by – June 8, 2010

Android usually takes about 30 seconds to boot. Ubiquituous, somehow, has made their QuickBoot solution to work for the Freescale i.MX51 processor, where Android can boot in about 1 second. In this video a full Android OS is demonstrated booting from complete power off in about 1 second.

I'm surprised you haven't mentioned the iPhone 4 reveal. It may be running on an A4 processor, but it's still an ARM chip. It's really just an Apple branded ARM Cortex A8 with a GPU integrated onto it.

This is very useful because with a lot of applications, a complete poweroff is much better than suspend.

If an ebook reader device can boot in 1 second, it make no sense suspending. An ereader my not be used for days on occasion. A complete poweroff keeps the battery untouched in these periods.
