Shenzhen-based Miki Mobile is predominantly a manufacturer of smartphones and tablets. Demoed here is a 10.1” 1280×800-pixel tablet with LTE capabilities on an MTK6735 chipset with a quad-core Cortex-A53 processor, selling for US$70. Their smartphone range has a variety of specs such as 4000mAh battery, 2.5D curved glass, and up to 6” display sizes. Their medical case is a mobile health kit with abilities to check blood sugar, blood pressure, the ability to magnify points for inspection, etc.
StretchSense is a B2B supplier of lightweight and high-precision sensors for companies in wearables, healthcare, sports, and motion capture industries. Soft and stretchy capacitive sensors are a new type of sensor that is in strong demand for wearable technology, a current mega trend determining new ways of human-device interaction, sports training and healthcare provision. Ricardo Anguiano of Mentor Graphics describes a memory wall game demo built with the Nucleus RTOS and thirty six NXP FRDM-K64F boards and touchscreens, plus a Boundary Devices BD-SL-i.MX6 game controller which also runs the Nucleus RTOS. Phong Chau of Cepheid discusses their new GeneXpert Omni, a point of care molecular diagnostic system built with Mentor Embedded Linux. Also covered in the video is a Mentor Graphics industrial automation robot demo which runs both the safety-critical functionality and the HMI control running on the same SoC using hardware enforced separation with implications for safety certification feasibility and safety certification cost control. The video ends with a brief computer security discussion, how security doesn’t lend itself to soundbites, and how the industry still makes the same security mistakes we were making since the 60s and how security applies to the Internet of Things and to the Automotive market.
Murata’s BCG sensor does not even need to be attached to the body in order to read its condition. It connects to the leg of an armchair or the bottom of the bed. Using a Texas Instruments microprocessor, the sensor connects over WiFi and provides readouts. The company here shows their prototype module for which a WiFi module has not yet been developed, as mentioned.
President and CEO of BlueSpark Technologies, John Gannon, showcases here their Temp Traq device, a temperature monitoring flexible sensor in the form of a patch applied on the body. It transmits signals via Bluetooth, readable on their app. The flexible battery inside is non-rechargable and is touted to last for up to 48 hours. The disposable sensor costs US$19.99, is FDA approved and immediately available.

AIQ shows their washable smart clothes with heart rate sensor, ECG, HRV, their key material is stainless steel fiber, 10% of size of human’s hair. AIQ’s smart clothes features a removable electronics moduel with ARM Cortex M0 and battery, it supports about 7 days battery life with normal usage.
Taiwan Textile Research Institude (TTRI ) shows their smart glove to control a drone, smart clothes wth smart textile marterials that are washable. The smart gloves is Gypro inside, with sensors in 3 fingers to control the Parrot drone to get up, turn left/right, forward/backward, and to get down again. With 70mAh removable battery. TTRI also shows the smart T-shirt with heart rate.sensor in the back, they also show smart clothes for policeman with LED lights on the surface.

Tacterion is a spin-off from the German aerospace center at the Robotics and Mechatronics Center to develop tacterion, a new kind of tactile sensor. Tacterion offers polymer-based tactile sensors called Artificial Skin for Robotics, MedTech or as a new kind of input device in Human-Machine-Interaction in Smart Clothing. The Quell is a device from Boston, Massachusetts-based Neuromatrix that claims to have brought relief for chronic pain to 81% of their users. The device involves the main unit bing put into a belt that has space for electrical contacts. These are used with a gel-based pad on the other side and wrapped around one’s leg to deliver mild electrical pulses that trigger release of natural pain blockers from the brain. It costs US$249 and is currently on sale only in Canada and the US. The device also includes an optional app for advanced sleep tracking functions.

Duratouch Wristsense allows wearables to detect if the wearable is being worn or not. Going through the plastics, it allows to reliably know if the smartwatch or the sports band is being worn, which can then allow the device’s software to turn off other sensors such as heartrate, tracking, when it’s not being worn by the user.
