This is 360 video, presented by Finwe Ltd CEO Juha Kela. 360 video is a special video production technology that utilizes multiple cameras to produce a full spherical 360×180 degree video experience. Video from multiple sources is synchronized, fine tuned and stitched together with a software called Autopano Video and Autopano Giga by Kolor. Kolor also delivers solutions for 360 video hosting and playback on a PC and web browser. Web player is based on html5.
Finwe ltd has developed a movement and touch controlled 360 video player for mobile devices, called 360 VideoBall. In collaboration with Kolor, they also just released a pre-version of free Kolor Eyes Android player. Beyond that, mobile player can also be used with Kickstarter funded goggles vrAse. This cool gadget has lenses and a special frame that holds mobile phones inside. The mobile phone is then used as a movement controlled display device, producing a separate image for both eyes. There is now an equipment based on 6 GoPro’s in a 360×180 formation to shoot 360 3D videos, which was used as a demonstration in MWC. The experience is really stunning and the image quality is very good thanks to the high quality and resolution of mobile devices.
Finwe CEO Juha Kela also demonstrated a special custom technology that enables 6k 360 video playback on a mobile phone. Current devices support only 4k resolution, but with the special technology they developed devices can play back videos even with 8k resolution! With this solution, user can zoom into the video without losing the quality.
To be able to provide a full turn key solution for 360 video production and to support the marketing of the mobile 360 video player technology Juha Kela founded a company called FinCloud Ltd. FinCloud has already done number of multi camera productions and one of their productions, a 360 music video for Finnish band Apulanta is currently nominated in Spotify “Innovator of the Year” category in Emma Gaala. Emma Gaala is an annual event, which rewards the most significant players in the industry during a year.

Here are the cheapest yet 4K displays for sale all over China, now being exported worldwide either under the Konka brand or under third party brands. They sell about 30K 4K displays per month at the moment and mass production of these are ramping up. Those all support HDMI 2 60fps by default. Konka uses the LG and Samsung 4K panels, so the quality is the same in terms of the panel, the CPU and 4K engine is different generating and upscaling perhaps different 4K quality yet, they use for example MStar 4K engine with among other things 4K HEVC decode support.

LG makes 4k TVS anywhere in the ballpark of 49″ to 105″. LG TV’s have upscaling technology so that HD videos can be watched in 4k. LG plans to release the 49″ 4k television during 2014 at unspecified date with no announced price. Netflix plans to offer 4k movie streaming and the LG TVS will be compatible with it.

MHL launches MHL 3.0 with 6gbit/s bandwidth to support 4K 2160p30 video output from a phone, simultaneous up to 40mbitps data channel for USB 2.0 host (for example USB hard drives), new RCP commands, HID support for touchscreens, keyboard and mice, now charging with up to 10W of power, HDCP 2.2, 7.1 surround sound with Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD, connector agnostic (uses as few as five pins), support for simultaneous up to 4 displays on one MHL 3 output while being backward compatible with MHL 1 and MHL 2. Cambrios CEO: ClearOhm Silver Nanowires replaces ITO in the touch screen industry

At CES 2014, I interviewed John LeMoncheck, President and CEO of Cambrios, in their suite. Cambrios’ silver nanowire material brand named ClearOhm® is doing extremely well in the market, they are replacing ITO in touch screens. Since the last time I spoke to Cambrios at Ceatec, they have announced more design wins for mobile phones, tablets, AIO and monitors. Cambrios recently announced partnership with 3M and prior to that they had announced a joint venture with TPK (world’s largest touch screen maker) and Nissha. At the suite, they also demonstrated products from Lenovo, 3M, UniDisplay, LG, Karbonn, eTurbotouch, NEC, Nissha and others. They also showed silver nanowire coated film rolls from Hitachi and Okura. Clearly they are winning business in touch, they just announced that they have tripled their manufacturing capacity, their customers like 3M, TPK have a lot of capacity as well. John also mentioned that they are enabling wearable devices, flexible OLED, solar cells and 3D TV.
Marvell Armada 1500 powers Android TV and Chromecast

Marvell Video R&D Software Architecture Team Leader Gaurav Arora talks about how Marvell and Google deliver the ARM Powered Google TV, now renamed Android TV on the dual-core Marvell Armada 1500-Plus, how the extremely popular and successful Chromecast runs on the single-core Marvell Armada 1500-Mini. Marvell also shows their new quad-core Marvell Armada 1500 Pro HD to be released in devices Q2 2014 running Android TV. Google is bringing the TV into the mainline ARM Powered Android releases, that is why they now brand it Android TV. The app package included on Android TV is called the Android TV GMS Package, includes apps like YouTube, Amazon, Hulu, Netflix and everything else optimized for the TV. The apps are designed for a 10-foot experience remote control user interface.

This video is an informative and interesting interview with Fan Yang and Arne Weber, the owners of faytech ltd, discussing the history and evolution of their years in the touchscreen industry and their passion to build the best products possible. Beginning over 8 years ago with starting to sell touchscreen monitors in Germany, they set up a importing business based in Germany which has grown to be one of Europe’s largest distributors of touchscreen devices. In 2008, Arne and Fan began to travel to China to find better suppliers, and ended up moving to Shenzhen and starting their own manufacturing company. Four short years later, faytech has over 70 employees, 15K sq. ft. of space, producing over 2000 touch screen monitors and touchscreen PCs a month, and achieving ISO certification in 2013.
OmniTek Xilinx HD to 4k Up-scaling Technology

Omnitek is a UK based manufacturer of video testing and measurement systems as well as IP core development with Xilinx. The Xilinx development boards can take full HD video and upscale to 4k. OmniTek has been producing professional video equipment for a long time. Xilinx up-scaling technology will eventually make into consumer hardware. Xilinx technology can also be useful for medical or industrial applications as well general broadcasting. ARM powered devices are largely replacing pcs for embedded applications.

The TiME Lab offers a unique and unrivalled blend of 3D panoramic projection in 7k resolution combined with a wave field synthesis (WFS) sound system consisting of a circle of 140 loudspeakers fixed around the auditorium. TiME Lab is designed as an open platform. The 3D Innovation Center Berlin offers the whole cast of actors a platform and a pre-competitive environment where they can exchange views and opinions, build contacts, put their products and systems to the test and present them jointly to a diversity of target audiences. The ready availability of know-how covering the whole 3D systems chain will generate new synergies – in terms of product development, marketing and sales as well as market positioning and public relations.
The 3D Innovation Center Berlin is:
– a showroom for products, prototypes and ideas
– a development platform and testbed for 3D technologies, applications and infrastructures
– an R&D lab for projects, innovations and standards
– a communication platform for providers, users and the general public
– a transfer platform for expertise and professional training

The establishment and organization of the 3D Innovation Center is in the hands of the Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute, The 3D Innovation Center is planned to operate for an initial period of five years. In China, the 55″ 4K TV now sells for $1100!!!!!!!! Dreams come true! We’re all about to get a 4K TV (this one is the Konka KKTV LED55K60U). Android Set-top-box leader Shenzhen Geniatech shows me here their ATV1800 on AmLogic Quad-core M802 with Eight-core Mali-450 to actually playback 4K video over HDMI. This is the beginning of the Ultra HD future, on Android Box, here beautifully showing off this amazingly affordable new Konka KKTV LED55K60U 55″ 4K TV sold for only $1100 all over China!!!! The trick of course is how we in the future will get 4K video contents, the trick I think is to stream it all from the web. I believe most movies of this last century are or can be digitized and made available in 4K streaming as soon as movie studios and cinemateques around the world make the 4K version of all 35mm-sourced or often 4K-digital (for movies filmed in the last 5 or so years) movies available. How much bandwidth does one need for good 4K video streaming? My guess is 20mbitps may be enough, even less sometimes if the 4K comes from YouTube and Netflix, while a good 4K streaming provider should scale above 20mbitps if your home Internet connection for example has 50mbitps, 100mbitps downstream speed or above.
