DisplayPort is a standard for high resolution diplays. DisplayPort 1.4 can support up to 8K resolution at up to 30 hertz on a single cable and 60 hertz over two cables, here showing it off running on an upcoming announced Dell 8K 32″ display. DisplayPort can also support HDR or high dynamic range.

If a device has USB type C and the necessary hardware it can output displayport video through Type C. Through USB Type C a device can be charged while outputting video and being connected to a USB hub. Display port alt mode can switch to HDMI for HDMI displays. The Snapdragon 835 has displayport functionality so more devices in the future should have it. Mobile devices in the future could potentially Run multiple display monitors through a dock.

A dock using High Bit Rate 3 (HBR3) over DisplayPort 1.4 can output to multiple 4k monitors.

Samsung Chromebook Plus powered by OP1 = RK3399-C

Posted by – January 22, 2017

http://whatisop.com details the OP1 ARM Processor optimized for Chromebooks, it’s the Rockchip RK3399-C Hexacore 6-core, dual ARM Cortex-A72 and quad ARM Cortex-A53 in big.LITTLE formation with Mali-T860MP GPU.

I believe that OP1 is the big push by Google and Rockchip, together with manufacturing partners such as Samsung shipping with Samsung Chromebook Plus from February 12th for $449 at Amazon.com to finally push Chromebooks to a Billion users worldwide, now with OP1, I believe that they have optimized the processor for mass market Chromebook success, with an optimal performance, power consumption and price point. They have worked for over a year on the OP1, to optimize it for the Chromebook market. As you can read on http://whatisop.com the OP1 chip is optimized for smooth low power consumption web browsing on super nice high resolution displays, with dual USB Type-C connectivity, fast reliable Wi-Fi connectivity, up to 4K playback, it uses GPU Compute to optimize the performance of every aspect of the Chrome OS web browsing UI. Fonts, scrolling, displaying images, animations, video, all is optimized, improved and accelerated also by the Mali-T860 GPU. Unlike Intel x86 Chromebooks, the OP1 platform runs all Android apps natively without emulation, that means that all the advanced Android apps optimized for productivity, such as Microsoft Word, Excell, Powerpoint, many other productivity Android apps such as OfficeSuite and PDF Editor, Free Office, Docs to Go, also Google Drive, Polaris Office, Quip, WPS Office and PDF and thousands of other productivity apps already available on Android, and thousands of advanced games on Android, all these apps are optimized for ARM, with Native Code in them that just runs better on ARM. I would guess that running any of these thousands of advanced Android apps might consume half the power to run on ARM compared with x86.

Sony BRAVIA X940E 75″ 4K HDR TV with full array local dimming LEDs for more brightness and contrast with X-tended Dynamic Range Pro, runs on Sony’s 4K HDR X1 Extreme processor, 40% more real-time image processing compared with the previous X1 processor, with HDR remaster for upscaling standard dynamic range (SDR) content to near 4K HDR quality. Sony Bravia X930E is for 65″ and 55″ with same processing capabilities as X940E. X930E has Slim Backlight Drive+ technology doing edge-lighting giving near full array local dimming performance. Sony launched the first X1 processor in 2015, enabling possibly the industry best noise reduction and upscaling quality, now with X1 Extreme, Sony expands on the features for improved 4K HDR quality for high picture clarity, higher contrast, and wider colors support. X1 Extreme introduces Dual Database Computer Vision Processing for improved noise reduction and upscaling using tens of thousands of references that Sony generates from its archive of knowing how recognizable things are supposed to look like. X1 Extreme also introduces Super Bit Mapping 4K HDR removes banding creating a smooth, natural picture. X1 Extreme also introduces Object-based HDR remastering recognizing objects in the image to adjust contours, textures, depth for a more natural look.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 enables Gigabit LTE, 4K60p 360 live stiching, 6-degrees VR at CES 2017

Posted by – January 15, 2017

Here’s a booth tour at the Qualcomm CES 2017 Booth, showing some of the features that Qualcomm is introducing with their 10nm Snapdragon 835 processor, the first processor to use the “Built on Cortex” technology ARM License. Qualcomm’s 10nm Kryo 280 might be built (my speculation) on quad ARM Cortex-A73 and quad ARM Cortex-A53, but customized by Qualcomm with their own design features on top, or throughout, including also Qualcomm’s own memory controllers and Qualcomm’s new X16 Gigabit LTE Baseband system. Qualcomm X16 Baseband supports up to Gigabit 1000mbit/s download speed and 150Mbps upload speed. It can function over a mix of licensed and unlicensed carrier spectrum. At the Qualcomm booth, this video also shows off some of the other awesome features that Qualcomm is making available with Snapdragon 835, includingn HDR10 4K60p HDMI 2.1a support and potentially HDR ready displays for smartphones to come, Project Tango and similar depth sensing for 6-degrees of freedom VR experiences merging the virtual world with the real world, turning VR into AR. Some other new multimedia features include live real-time stitching of 360 video at 4K 60 frames per second (possibly encoding with H265) which could enable the most advanced 360 video recording, also possibly recording 360 audio. Then combining 3 microphones to design directional audio recording similar to a shotgun microphone, improving the electronic image stabilization functionality (now to version 3.0) and deep neural networks run on the device for integrating advanced computer vision in the smartphone.
