At ISE 2025, Google showcased the versatility of ChromeOS in digital signage applications, emphasizing its sustainability, security, and reliability. A notable highlight was Project Starline, an advanced video communication technology designed to create immersive, face-to-face interactions, making participants feel as though they are sharing the same physical space. This innovation aims to enhance remote communication by providing a more natural and engaging experience.

In collaboration with various partners, Google demonstrated the adaptability of ChromeOS across multiple industries. A unique “inconvenience store” setup illustrated the challenges associated with legacy operating systems, such as system crashes and slow performance, which can negatively impact customer experiences. In contrast, ChromeOS offers a modern, browser-first operating system that delivers rapid response times and seamless updates, ensuring uninterrupted service.

The event also featured hardware solutions optimized for digital signage and kiosk deployments. Devices like the Lenovo Chromebox were presented, highlighting their compact design, robust performance, and cost-effectiveness. These devices come pre-installed with ChromeOS, providing a secure and efficient platform for various applications in retail and hospitality settings.

Voice AI integration was another focal point, demonstrated through a drive-thru scenario. Utilizing ChromeOS, the system enabled natural language conversations between customers and AI, streamlining the ordering process. This setup showcased the potential for progressive web apps (PWAs) to run efficiently within the Chrome browser, offering dynamic and interactive user experiences.

Partners like Appspace and StratosMedia displayed their digital signage solutions, emphasizing employee engagement and real-time content delivery. Appspace’s platform allows organizations to disseminate timely information to employees, whether they are in the office or remote, ensuring consistent communication. StratosMedia’s integration with Google Meet hardware enables the use of existing devices for digital signage purposes, maximizing hardware utilization.

The adaptability of ChromeOS was further demonstrated through a point-of-sale (POS) system tailored for retail and hospitality environments. This system facilitated product scanning, payment processing, and dynamic content display, all managed through cloud connectivity. The rapid, lag-free performance underscored ChromeOS’s capability to handle demanding transactional operations efficiently.

ChromeOS Flex was introduced as a solution to extend the lifespan of existing hardware. By installing ChromeOS Flex on legacy devices, organizations can benefit from a modern operating system without the need for new hardware investments. This approach not only reduces electronic waste but also offers a cost-effective pathway to modernize IT infrastructure.

The event concluded with a demonstration of a vending machine powered by ChromeOS, exemplifying the operating system’s versatility in managing single-application devices. This setup reinforced ChromeOS’s suitability for various use cases, from interactive kiosks to digital signage, highlighting its role in delivering secure, reliable, and efficient solutions across industries.
