VidiMo – short for Video director on Mobile – enables anyone to become a social media video star or citizen journalist. VidiMo turns a smartphone and HDMI video source (such as a camera) into a full‐fledged, virtual production and transmission studio, enabling a single operator to produce multi‐source, television‐style shows that can be streamed live, recorded or both.
Smartphone camera quality has improved significantly in recent years, but dedicated video and DSLR cameras still provide superior creative functionality such as greater optical zoom, depth of field, tactile focus and iris control. VidiMo lets producers have the best of both worlds, bringing an HDMI video source into their iOS or Android smartphone and combining it with the phone’s camera and other sources. VidiMo users can simply capture an HDMI signal into their mobile device and stream it, or use the app’s fast, intuitive interface and advanced features to create professional‐looking live shows on the fly in real time.
The VidiMo system consists of the battery‐powered VidiMo Go hardware and VidiMo App. VidiMo Go’s innovative physical design forms a complete handheld production solution, serving as a capture device for HDMI video and analog audio signals; attaching any size of smartphone to a DSLR, sports/action or professional camera; and flexibly positioning the phone for convenient control of the app.
Meanwhile, the VidiMo App provides a complete live production toolkit on the smartphone, letting the user be the director, operator and on‐screen talent all at once. For each show, users can switch between six fully‐customizable scene layouts that mix live video and audio sources – including the HDMI source and the phone’s front or rear camera – with graphics, text and prerecorded media clips. Shows can be recorded on the smartphone or streamed live to popular third‐party services such as YouTube™ Live, Facebook™ Live and Twitch™.
VidiMo’s November debut received rave reviews from attendees at the StreamGeeks Summit, with both new and experienced streaming video producers praising its rich features, simplicity and user‐focused design. With VidiMo scheduled to ship in Q1 of 2020, StreamGear is now taking applications for its Early Adopter Program and discussing retail partnerships with wireless communication service providers. Prospective users and partners are encouraged to contact StreamGear.
“VidiMo’s elegant simplicity opens the door to high‐quality, live streaming production for a vast number of potential producers who previously couldn’t access this level of capabilities,” said Darryl Spangler, CEO of StreamGear Inc. “Everyone who has seen VidiMo first‐hand has been truly impressed, and we’re looking forward to CES attendees experiencing the same ‘Aha!’ moment when they experience it in person.”
About StreamGear – StreamGear (www.streamgear.io) is hyper‐focused on developing tools that make it easy for users to create high‐quality video. The company’s leadership team has more than five decades of combined experience in the video production, digital media and live streaming markets. StreamGear’s first product, VidiMo, turns a smartphone and video source into a full‐fledged, virtual video production and transmission facility, making it easier than ever for professionals and enthusiasts to create and share engaging live video content.

In addition to flexible display applications, BOE also displays the world-leading UHD display solution called the BD CELL UHD display which features an ultra-high static contrast ratio of up to 1,000,000:1, a bit depth of 12 bit, and a black field brightness of less than 0.003 nits, BOE also presents a host of 8K products, including 75″ 8K 120Hz display, a 3.5″ 8K VR display, and 0.39″ 8K spliced VR display. Under the “8425 Strategy” (promote 8K, popularize 4K, replace 2K and make good use of 5G), BOE is now speeding up the application of 8K in many fields. Other leading-edge technologies and solutions that BOE shows at this show include the first ever HDR notebook featuring mini-LED, the 15.6″ oxide display with an ultra-high refresh rate of 240Hz, the 55″ inkjet-printed 4K OLED display, the 0.39″ micro-OLED AR display that enjoys the world’s largest pixel density of 5,644 PPI.

In the smart Automotive cabin, the information required for smart travel becomes part of the actual scene with the help of AR technology, the head-up display (HUD) can project useful information such as speed per hour and navigation onto the front windshield for the driver’s reference. In addition, BOE replaces the conventional in-car LCD with flexible display. The 12.3″ three-unit flexible display is backed by the OLED pixel compensation circuit technology developed by BOE, which can effectively improve the brightness uniformity of mid-sized OLED displays and provide better audiovisual experience for car users, BOE applies flexible AMOLED displays to transparent A-pillars, rearview mirrors to solve the problem of driver’s blind spots in automotive design. The flexible display can perfectly match the shape of the A-pillar and show data with delay shorter than one millisecond. With the help of camera, the images blocked by the A-pillar can be shown on the flexible display, thus eliminating blind spots in the field of view. By applying flexible display, the rearview mirror can also be customized according to the interior shape of the car. BOE’s smart cabin is equipped with a 6.39″ flexible display as a built-in rearview mirror, which makes it safer to drive the car even on rainy and snowy days, BOE also exhibited some innovative applications of in-car display, such as center console solution that supports gesture-based interaction and V-shaped mini-LED for cars. BOE’s high-end in-car display panels have been supplied to automakers in the United States, Germany, the UK, Japan and South Korea.

Here demonstrating OXI running with the Lapdock launched on crowdfunding on Indiegogo starting at $100. OXI can bring in and run Windows 10 apps in resizable Windows inside of this Android user interface, no need to boot all the way into a Windows 10 remote desktop just pulling in the needed Windows apps over the Internet, using virtualization, streaming, with servers that can nearby and served through Enterprise’s existing Windows server infrastructure. The Windows 10 apps can feel like they are running locally on Android with minimal lag. Auxens is now reaching out to Smartphone manufacturers to try to pre-install OXI on shipping phones with Displayport USB Type-C support. Hopefully they can integrate by getting some API access with http://shadow.tech cloud PC service and hopefully OXI comes with the Cosmo Communicator that is being developed and which I filmed here

The new design also allows for better antennas for a stronger LTE signal and possibly also for a stronger Wi-Fi and Bluetooth support too.

LAPSCREEN with faytech, 12.5″ Type-C Display, runs off DP phone/laptop/anything https://armdevices.net/2018/12/30/lapscreen-with-faytech-12-5-type-c-display-runs-off-dp-phone-laptop-anything/ https://armdevices.net/2018/12/30/lapscreen-with-faytech-12-5-type-c-display-runs-off-dp-phone-laptop-anything/#respond Sat, 29 Dec 2018 23:40:59 +0000 http://138.2.152.197/?p=136206 Michél Haese shows LAPSCREEN manufactured by faytech. This video also features Arne Weber, the managing founder of faytech. Here demonstrating Lapscreen with a Huawei P20, using the Smartphone’s CPU/Memory?Connectivity and Battery to power the LAPSCREEN with its 12.5” FHD display, available both non-touch for around $200 and touch version for about $300, shipping in January. The concept is for Lapscreen to be so thin and lightweight it can fit inside an A4-envelope. LAPSCREEN displays the Huawei P20 either in work station mode with all the office tools or one can play any mobile games on a large 12.5” screen instead of the display of a tiny mobile phone. With just around 5W power consumption, the mobile phone’s battery is enough to also run the LAPSCREEN for several hours on a charge, there is also a PD Power Delivery port on the Lapscreen to power the Lapscreen and charge the mobile phone at the same time.

Michél also presents the set up of using LAPSCREEN on different macbooks, showing how one can connect up to 4 LAPSCREENS to just one macbook. There is also an HDMI input on every LAPSCREEN, to connect any HDMI source, any media player, notebook, WiFi/Miracast-dongle, even game consoles like the Nintendo Switch or the iPhone via a lightning to HDMI-cable are perfectly presented on the LAPSCREEN too.

$100 Lapdock on Indiegogo https://armdevices.net/2018/12/23/100-lapdock-on-indiegogo/ https://armdevices.net/2018/12/23/100-lapdock-on-indiegogo/#respond Sun, 23 Dec 2018 22:52:57 +0000 http://138.2.152.197/?p=136199 Now crowdfunding the Lapdock project on Indiegogo at http://igg.me/at/lapdock starting at $100. The future of Laptops will not have a powerful CPU in them but will be modular when you buy them, they can be powered by your phone, or you can buy a small compact ARM Powered internal or external Type-C Stick to run them off of. Laptops are all about getting a great keyboard, mouse and display, but the CPU, Memory, Connectivity, those things can be swapped according to progress in the industry. I will be posting updates on this project at http://Lapdock.net and on the Updates tab at http://igg.me/at/lapdock if this project gets funded by at least $100 thousand, then the suppliers in Shenzhen China will be able to deliver the Lapdock at this price. If Lapdocks can become a larger success with a lot of demand then prices will be able to reach sub-$100 for high quality components, high quality keyboard, mouse pad, display and batteries also that last at least 20 hours on a charge. With a lot of support, this concept will also bring high performance and affordable USB Type-C Sticks to run all sorts of productivity user interfaces based on Android (such as the OXI UI) or Linux OSes or even Microsoft can bring Windows support to the Lapdock. This form factor could also bring the developers who use development boards closer to the mass market consumers, as all work done around the development boards of the future (very compact and affordable USB Type-C Sticks) will directly be able to impact also how end consumers can use devices for actual real work and productivity. The Lapdock will also move Smartphone market more towards their “PC Mode” as Samsung and Huawei already support each their PC Modes, and that is great because Samsung and Huawei are the two biggest Smartphone manufacturers in the world, yet most consumers don’t even know that the PC Mode is there. With Lapdocks, the performance of latest 7nm ARM Processors in phones will be tuned further for multi-window, multi-tasking and for running more advanced productivity apps on Android. 2019 will hopefully be the year where ARM Powered productivity finally reaches mass adoption and the mass market and I think that the Lapdock will be at the center point of that major electronics industry upgrade.

With some talk on the status of using Freedreno for hardware accelerated GPU support in that Chromium OS demo. Over the past few months this solution has been upstreamed into the mainline kernel, display driver, audio driver, wifi driver, all the connectivity and periferal storage drivers, all to make Chromium OS work on that chipset. Running the 4.18 kernel with very few additional patches, it has hardware accelerated video playback using the open source freedreno driver. This could be a clue towards what I think could be an ultimate ARM Powered Laptop, a Snapdragon 845 Powered Chromebook would be so awesome, with Gigabit LTE, with good ARM single thread and multi-thread performance, with smooth Android and Linux apps supported, perhaps even it would be nice if Microsoft could contribute full x86 and ARM compiled Windows 10 apps support directly on this device.

It comes with world’s first 1.4Gbit/s Cat.21 LTE Modem, supports 2133Mhz LPDDR4X. Huawei claims to be about 50% faster at loading apps compared with the latest iPhone and Galaxy Note 9, run 38% longer on its 4200mAh battery, enables 140% faster quick charge with its 40W charger, it takes only 30min to charge up 70% of the battery and has 70% faster wireless charging. Up to 120% better antenna performance compared with the new iPhone Xs Max, with its dual-frequency GPS receiver, it can have a 10x better GPS positioning accuracy. Huawei PC Mode now also works by its usual USB Type-C Displayport functionality but it also works wirelessly sending the PC Mode display over to any Miracast receiver they also provide a Huawei wireless dongle. Huawei Mate 20 X is a very large 7.2″ OLED smartphone with 5000mAh battery, world’s first vapor chamber and grephene film based cooling technology enabling higher performance when doing processor intensive tasks for long periods of time such as for gaming.

It can recognize landmarks, famous paintings and objects which can then be purchased directly in Huawei’s Smart Shopping feature that can recognize things and launch the purchase procedure directly based on the image or based on the camera. The Huawei Mate 20 comes with not only the world’s most powerful Arm processor in Kirin 980 built on 7nm, with quad ARM Cortex-A76 and quad ARM Cortex-A55, it also has Dual-core Neural Processing Unit offering a vast amount of AI computing performance, making up probably a large part of those 6.9 Billion transistors on the SoC. These algorithms can eventually be trained to offer more and more accurate recognition of things in the surroundings of the smartphone camera.

Bokeh video on Huawei Mate 20 Pro https://armdevices.net/2018/10/17/bokeh-video-on-huawei-mate-20-pro/ https://armdevices.net/2018/10/17/bokeh-video-on-huawei-mate-20-pro/#respond Wed, 17 Oct 2018 04:50:06 +0000 http://138.2.152.197/?p=136068 The Huawei Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro can take Bokeh video, they can blur the background as one of their new video AI modes in 1080p30. I shot here a sample using the phone so you can see the quality of that bokeh effect. Does it look good enough for video-blogging in a way that might have a professional look to it? I guess if the bokeh isn’t by optics it’s better not to shoot with it, right? But then the whole video is flat. This bokeh AI effect does not seem to recognize the things that are at the same distance, it blurs out anything that it considers not to be part of the face. And it might unblur any other faces that it catches in the background too which kind of defeats the purpose of blurring out the foreground and the background. It is possible though that Huawei might still yet improve on their AI algorithms here to perhaps improve their bokeh video effect further.

Good job from the Trillion dollar fruit gadgets company. (I mean of course their new 7nm ARM processor surely is interesting..) The Gemini PDA is my daily driver phone, I use my Gemini PDA every day as my main phone for over 6 months now (since I filmed this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cTU28QgYHdQ&t=203s ), Gemini PDA is amazing for me to be productive, to be able to type texts with my phone nearly as fast as I would on a laptop, and here I also show a properly great value $150 Vernee Mix 2 phone available at around $150 here https://www.gearbest.com/cell-phones/pp_906061.html?wid=1527929 (thank you Gearbest for sending me this one!) There are some newer Bezel-less phones that have been released since, some perhaps slightly lighter, with better GPS positioning accuracy, better camera and brighter display. Check back later for more videos on these.

EU fines Google $5 Billion for illegal Android app-bundling contract policies https://armdevices.net/2018/07/19/eu-fines-google-5-billion-for-illegal-android-app-bundling-contract-policies/ https://armdevices.net/2018/07/19/eu-fines-google-5-billion-for-illegal-android-app-bundling-contract-policies/#respond Thu, 19 Jul 2018 02:45:50 +0000 http://138.2.152.197/?p=135933 Margrethe Vestager, Member of the European Commission in charge of Competition, on Antitrust holds press conference with press Q&A announcing the fine on Google of €4.34 billion ($5 Billion) for illegal practices regarding Android mobile devices to strengthen dominance of Google’s search engine, Google’s exclusive app-bundling policies illegally blocking competition in the Android based hardware device space over the last decade but especially since 2011. Google forbids manufacturers to pre-install any competitor to Google Search, Chrome, Google Maps, Gmail, Google Docs and other of the core Google apps on any Android device if such manufacturer wants to pre-load any such Google app on any device. Google must fix this within 90 days or be fined further daily up to 5% of their daily global revenue.

I have been complaining about Google’s app bundling policies in Android over the past decade, I think those Google policies are anti-competitive but also counter-productive for Google itself. I think Google should support and encourage as much innovation around the Android OS as possible, they should let the manufacturers customize Android devices as they wish, Google should encourage their competitors such as Microsoft, Adobe, Apple, Yandex, Baidu, Alibaba, Amazon, Rakuten and many many other large tech companies should be invited to subsidize Android device by pre-loading whichever other search engines and apps that they would like to pre-load, and they should also be encouraged to adjust, customize, enhance and even to fork Android to add new functionalities to the Android operating system, for example support for other app platforms inside Android, for example support for Windows apps in Android, support for iOS apps in Android, support for Linux apps in Android and much more. I also believe that Google will make more money also when Google opens Android up much more and better, to allow device makers to work with Google’s competitors when it comes to apps that are pre-installed, and including also to develop Android fully in the open source space sharing dailies of all daily Android development.

Libre Computer Development Boards S905X, RK3328, H2+/H3/H5 form-factor compatible with Raspberry Pi https://armdevices.net/2018/06/05/libre-computer-development-boards-s905x-rk3328-h2-h3-h5-form-factor-compatible-with-raspberry-pi/ https://armdevices.net/2018/06/05/libre-computer-development-boards-s905x-rk3328-h2-h3-h5-form-factor-compatible-with-raspberry-pi/#respond Tue, 05 Jun 2018 16:29:26 +0000 http://138.2.152.197/?p=135857 Libre Computer introduces three products of their CC-series which are form-factor compatible with the Raspberry Pi boards and based on open-market hardware. Depending on the model, these single-board computers (SBCs) offer higher performance, more RAM, and/or more IO while sharing the existing aftermarket parts ecosystem. All three products were featured on crowdfunding and supported by free and open source software (FOSS) like Linux and u-boot.

AML-S905X-CC, nicknamed Le Potato, is based on the popular Amlogic S905X SoC. It offers up to 2GB of RAM, four 64-bit cores, 4K60 video playback with HDR, and built-in infrared receiver. This board is the most power-efficient platform of the three and uses less than one watt at idle. There is a large suite of available software for the S905X SoC and it is the only one that has previously passed certification for Google’s Android TV platform. Currently, video decode is missing from upstream Linux and is only available from Amlogic’s BSP with Linux 4.9. Android up to 8 Oreo is available with design contract.

ROC-RK3328-CC, nicknamed Renegade, is based on the Rockchip RK3328 SoC. It offers up to 4GB of high-speed DDR4, four 64-bit cores, 4K60 video playback with HDR, USB 3.0, Gigabit Ethernet. Perfect for IO intensive application like home media center, NAS, microservice virtualization, and more. HDMI support in upstream Linux is scheduled to be completed in Q4 2018. Ubuntu and Debian with accelerated video and 3D is available based on Rockchip’s BSP with Linux 4.4. Android up to 8 Oreo is schedule to be available in Q3 2018 with design contract.

ALL-H3-CC, nicknamed Tritium, is based on three separate Allwinner SoCs: H2+, H3, and H5. The H2+ variant offers 512MB of RAM, four 32-bit cores, and 1080P video playback. The H3 variant is the H2+ variant with 1GB of RAM and 4K30 video playback. The H5 variant offers 2GB of RAM, four 64-bit cores, and 4K30 video playback. There is a large software community behind Allwinner SoCs called linux-sunxi and they have been upstreaming Linux hardware support for almost a decade. This platform also has a crowdfunded effort for video decode Linux upstream underway by Bootlin. Android up to 7 Nougat is available.

Full Comparison of Board Features

Libre Computer platforms are radio-less, FCC and CE certified, long-term-supported (LTS 5Y+) single-board computers. Libre Computer offers hardware customization on all supported SoC platforms. Standard boards with components added/removed can be ordered with 1K MOQ. Small effort customization/mezzanine design contract can be requested with 5K MOQ. Full custom design contracts are available for orders with 20K MOQ. Industrial design, software, project management resources are available as part of design contract.

The very glimmering back side of the phone is a fingerprint magnet, not sure if the effect looks as good if a transparent back case is used. They use an ultrasonic based front side finderprint reader, though I prefer when fingerprint readers are on the back.

This is made possible due to Onyx’s Android solution on their Boox E Ink e-reader platform, as this is enabled through Android. The two readers connect via Wi-Fi direct and the master reader connects with the pedal and Smartphone using Bluetooth. Thus far they have been reaching out to professional and amateur musicians to get their feedback. Onyx is bringing their whole E Ink e-reader range up to their new Quad-core 1.6Ghz ARM platform with smoother and faster page turns, faster and better Android support. Onyx shows some of their new 6″ e-reader designs including Boox Ligo, Boox Nova, Boox Poke that will come before the end of the year. While the 10.3″ Boox Note is awesome, it is probably not a large enough screen for the music reading market. The TechNexion product lineup has grown once again in size. The company is showcasing Android Things development kits based on PICO-PI-IMX7 Low-cost system on modules that are modular, scalable and versatile. The Android Things development boards are based on the NXP i.MX7 applications processor. TechNexion is also launching several wireless communication modules, including PIXI-41Z and the PIXI-9377 low-cost, certified, 1×1 802.11 AC/BT4.1 module that deliver high transmission rates, low latency and improved range.

TechNexion is a provider of embedded systems and system-on-modules, in 2017, TechNexion was chosen by Google as a partner to develop the reference design for its Android Things development kit. That kit based on the PICO-PI-IMX7 board has been the go-to development kit distributed at developer shows and used for demoing the potential of Android Things.

The New TechNexion PIXI series is a communication module that delivers all IoT multi-mode communication needs in one ultra-compact and secure module series. It is specifically designed to enable better transmission rates, lower latency, better range and higher resistance to interference when two or more communication protocols – for example, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or Thread – are needed to run concurrently on one system-on-chip. Multiple communication protocols in one chip means users can collect more data from disparate communication protocols, while also having the flexibility to use the right protocol to suit the type of data and distance from your hub.

Panel PCs – TechNexion has three human-machine-interface (HMI) panel computing series: TC, TEP and TWP. The TEP Series is available with either ARM or x86 architecture and has an IP65 anodized aluminum enclosure and a flux mounted projective capacitive touch, high brightness LCD display – ranging from 5 to 15.6 inches. The TWP Series is a fully waterproof, IP69K, panel PC designed to withstand extreme temperatures, high vibration, and cleaning with a jet spray. It is also available with either ARM or x86 architecture – ranging from 10 to 15.6 inches. The TEP-1560-IMX6 is their 15” panel computer based on i.MX6 and the TWP-1560-IMX6 is their NEW model that is waterproof, stainless steel, panel computer.

Fanless Box PCs – The TEK Series fanless computing systems are enclosed in a compact, fully ruggedized enclosure, and are perfect for controlling versatile end-equipment.

System-on-Modules – TechNexion continues to expand its SoM options through its two series, EDM and PICO. These series have an exhaustive range of options around size, processor capability and connector type enabling the creation of almost any kind of embedded device. They are designed to be scalable and come with fully open source software – Linux and Android – and schematics.

WandPi-8M community board – TechNexion were also showing the latest version of their community development board. It is based on NXP’s i.MX8M Quad application processor with ARM Cortex-A53 + M4 architecture to deliver 4K UltraHD with HDR video quality with pro audio fidelity. The WandPi-8M is available for pre-order and is expected to ship in Spring of this year.
