Weibu shows Intel/Rockchip XMM6321 dual-core ARM Cortex-A5 with 3G

Posted by – November 5, 2014

Weibu is a PCB Design House, usually they mostly worked on designing x86 dektop motherboards using Intel x86 and AMD x86, but now with Intel making ARM in the Rockchip XMM6321, Weibu now also works on this ARM PCB design, to be used in very cheap 7″ 3-G connected Android tablets to be sold around the world. Take a tour here in their design house.

Intel makes ARM Processor in $40 Rockchip XMM6321 Tablets at Skyth-Tek PCB Design House

Posted by – October 31, 2014

Intel is making their first Dual-core ARM Cortex-A5 processor with Rockchip called the Rockchip XMM6321 highly integrated 2-chip with baseband/RF/analog/GPS/WiFi/Bluetooth in the second chip, with an ARM Mali-400 GPU, targetted at sub-$40 3G-enabled Phablets, manufactured at TSMC (because the Intel Fab doesn’t manufacture 28nm anymore) and designed by the team coming from Intel’s Infineon ARM baseband group, here the Rockchip XMM6321 is being launched at the Skyth-Tek PCB Design House in Shenzhen China. Where they are now launching mass production of these Intel/Rockchip $40 ARM Phablets together with the ODM Firstview. You can read the press release about XMM6321 here.

I have been predicting that this moment would happen for years. The next step is for Intel to also manufacture some high-end ARM Processors for Rockchip in their own 14nm Fab.

The Android Phablet market is growing very rapidly, the extremely affordable Phablet may become the first or main device that a Billion people use to access the Internet, as the potential market growth for the low-cost Android Phablet is so huge, especially in developing countries, it’s only normal that Intel must try to be a part of that market by letting their Infineon baseband division release this ARM Processor and to do it in partnership with Rockchip, as Rockchip has experience over the past 3-4 years of the explosive Tablet market growth in powering millions of affordable ARM Powered devices for the international mass market.

Intel ARM Processor in Rockchip XMM6321

ACT Factory Tour, XMM6321 $30 Rockchip/Intel ARM Cortex-A5 3G Phone

Posted by – October 23, 2014

ACT is one of the first factories to be starting mass production of the new $30 Smartphone on Dual-core ARM Cortex-A5 with 3G Infineon baseband made by Rockchip and Intel at TSMC. ACT Industrial makes about 10 thousand tablets per day, they can ramp that up as they plan to start the Rockchip XMM6321 entry-level Smartphone production here in the next week.

Rockchip XMM6321 ARM made by Intel with Rockchip for low-cost 3G phones and tablets

Rockchip XMM6321 is the XG632 dual-core ARM Cortex-A5 chip with the AG620 baseband chip from Intel’s Infineon division making ARM with Rockchip for an entry level 3G 2-chip solution, for sub-$30 entry level 3G Rockchip phones, sub-$40 entry level 3G Rockchip Tablets, the 3G baseband part supplied by Intel and this ARM Processor manufactured in Intel’s Fab in 28nm (I think perhaps it’s designed by Rockchip with Intel’s baseband and made at TSMC). Rockchip also designs a 4G LTE module for RK3288 with the Ericsson LM80x. Comming soon before the end of the year will also be One-chip ARM solutions by Rockchip made by Intel with on-die LTE support based on Intel’s Sofia baseband.

Intel x3 Sofia platform with ARM Mali400/450/720 GPU

Posted by – April 7, 2015

After spending Billions of dollars in the past year to buy market share in the tablet market, Intel’s mobile division reported an operating loss of $4.21 billion for 2014, Intel subsidized Shenzhen tablet design houses and factories, they probably want to stop that very expensive subsidy by trying to convince the design houses and factories to use Intel’s next generation x86 platform which Intel may claim to not be requiring subsidies to buy market share anymore. Previously code-named Sofia, Intel’s x3 platform is a two chip 3G solution using ARM Mali-400MP4 GPU in the Intel x3 C3130 dual-core, ARM Mali-450MP4 GPU in the quad-core Intel x3-C3230RK (marketed/designed with Rockchip) and 4G LTE with the ARM Mali-760MP2 GPU in the quad-core Intel x3 C3440. Will Intel manage to price their next generation x86 at MediaTek-like levels and will they really be able to keep design houses and factories interested if they stop subsidizing them, if they stop dumping the price and giving away their CPUs for free, giving factories PCB designs for free (reference design based), PCB and tablet productions subsidized, marketing subsidized, software development subsidized and etc? What is Intel’s real potential market share in tablets and smartphones when they stop this subsidy? And why doesn’t Intel just make more ARM devices in and out of their Fab like they did the Intel/Rockchip XMM6321 dual-core ARM Cortex-A5 that I filmed here: http://138.2.152.197/?s=XMM6321
