My reply from the company was “our software engineers (said) that Netflix is not supported in China”…really…that’s the response? Not “we’re on that S*** Jules….be cool and wait for the Wolf” or whatever fix they can come up with…like becoming a supported device.

Ms. Song replied promptly to my e-mail and put me in touch with SYBA USA who is doing the US technical support for Allsmart Technology, Ltd. Hopefully, my only issue with the product will be evaluated.

The one item I didn’t review is the mini HDMI – I don’t have a mini HDMI cable to test it so I don’t know if/how it functions. Also, I forgot that the mono speaker is on the back, loud enough in quiet environments, but not if there’s significant back round noise.

I tried to review the XpressTab 7 on Newegg, but it never posted – probably because the Android implementation appears to have a bug. But first….

This is a very attractive appearing product. It comes in a (literally) generic box with just the XpressTab and a charger – no manual – hard copy, on product, or online. This is not a problem for me, but a technical dope could have an issue. The XpressTab is just slightly larger than the 7″ Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 – I tried a case for the Samsung and the XpressTab is just a few millimeters larger (unfortunately, as I doubt the XpressTab will have a custom case). The XpressTab is solid, attractive, and professional looking.

The device had 77% charge when I received it – the separate 5V 2A charger charged it to 100% quickly. I cycled the device from 100% to power off 3 times. A full charged takes 2.5-3.5 hours/ the micro USB also charged the device albeit at a much slower rate. The XpressTab 7 only has a 2400 mAh battery (the 9 inch has 4000 mAh). This is a little small for this device, thus the XpressTab only gets about 4 hours of video/7-8 hours of e-book reading on a single charge. Acceptable, but not great. (The ex had an iPad Air…that thing went forever on a single charge).

All the interfaces (beside the touchscreen) are at the top of the device. A single button is the power/wake/soft reset. There is a front/back camera and on the back a pinhole hard reset. The volume control are added to the standard Back/Home/Previous App touchscreen navigation buttons. Also additional navigation buttons are screenshot and record screen – I’m not exactly sure why. The display is very good – 1024 x 600 is fine for a 7″ tablet – bright with a good viewing angle. The touchscreen has the appropriate sensitivity. The front/back cameras are functional but not great. There power jack/micro USB/headphone jack are all on the top – the headphone jack on the top is slightly annoying when reading.

The Android 4.4.2 implementation is good. There is a video and music player, plus all your favorites in Google Play Store is you don’t like the installed. My only issue is with the Netflix app – it runs/logs in/displays menu selection OK, but when select a video, the tablet displays “loading” indefinitely – the XpressTab is not frozen – I can go back or to home. YouTube videos and side loaded videos run fine, so I suspect an Android implementation or a Netflix app problem. My second complaint is no customer service – not poor – none. I use All Smartest Technology Site to send three e-mails – no response after a week.- not even that the e-mails were received. There is no phone number/customer help line/chat service – just a black hole e-mail site.

My summary – nice product for the money – but know the battery is a little small and there is no documentation and no customer support – I don’t know what I’d do if I needed warranty work. I’m going to e-mail the sales rep above – maybe she can help me get a response…
