That making the conducting layer of the gate thinner but also use a thicker layer of insulator,
instead of making the gate smaller in width but higher as in the FinFET-gate transistor.

FD-SOI can be a step further instead of force the progress to FinFET, which is difficult even for Intel as making mitred corners and not round corners of the FinFET-gate.
