Just like PCs the processor technology far outpaced OS and software development. A perfect example of this is the OUYA game console. Working with nVidia they are refining it as much as possible and in doing so performance will improve. Linaro is another example of OS performance improvements through software advancement. Lastly is the game development. Look at the early Tegra optimized games and now look at some games like Dead Trigger, Horn, Shadow Gun, etc… All running on Tegra 3. Now imagine the improvements when running these games on a Linaro compiled Android OS which has been additionally tweaked by nVidia for additional performance and stability. There is a LOT of power in these systems and OS and software guys just need the time to build and optimize for it to take full advantage of it. So having the hardware is fine because eventually the software will meet it and that’s when people will see the advantages of these systems.

They saw Nvidia is doing it and they probably freaked out about Nvidia stealing their thunder with their “quad core” so they immediately started working on a line-up of quad core SoC’s, too.

But it’s silly. Quad core chips are not that useful for a smartphone. I’d rather see a higher clocked dual core with a more powerful GPU. Also, I have no idea why everyone is so late with Cortex A5, but hopefully that doesn’t deter them from having Cortex A7-based SoC’s early next year. Dual core Cortex A7 low-end smartphones and big.Little smartphones with Cortex A15 and A7 is what I really want to see.
