All those games and even emulation can evt run on Chrome OS, someone simply needs to release web apps that run the games using WebGL and native code. Those things are coming. The idea is web apps can in theory run everything that native apps run, it’s just that Chrome OS is new, so developers have not yet spent time implementing it. But this is the future. And if you need, you can already dual-boot Ubuntu on any Chromebook just using an SD card.

That could very well happen. Chrome OS is almost useless because I can’t run Linux games like Xonotic and Quake 3 not to mention the huge amount of games that can be run using DOSBOX and Chrome OS can’t run most emulated game system. Remember at load it uses 2x the power of the ordroid-x I used it so far I couldn’t get power consumption above 3 watts that might change once THEY finally get their butts in gear and release full 3D accel for X11.

That’s just peak power maybe. Peak power consumption doesn’t have to be used more than 1% of the time. For gaming you do not need peak power, there it goes over on the Mali-T604 GPU to do most of the computing task. Most of the time the Cortex-A15 is down-clock and uses little power. The thing is on the Chromebook today, Google and Samsung prefer to over-clock the processor a lot more than needed, just because they’d like the device to be as responsive as possible until they have implemented hardware optimizations that allows them to turn down the power consumption, it’s just a question of Google and Samsung wanting the initial reviews of the device to be positive and then within weeks and months they can surprise many by significantly increasing battery life all the while improving the performance, that simply done by implementing more hardware acceleration in the software update.

That maybe true however ARM Cortex A15 max watt usage is WAY TOO HIGH for even tablets. An ARM Cortex A15 tablet would use 10-15 watts Intel will beat that next year. I wonder how they are going to put up with the heat in ARM A15 when Qualcomm S4 is overheating in phones. Big.LITTLE will help a great deal but I spend 1/3 of the time on my PC playing games and that uses the maximum power consumption so load power IS VERY IMPORTANT TO ME.

I believe that’s because Exynos5250 is not yet using the big.LITTLE design, it’s only the big processor in there, and I also believe Google hasn’t yet fully hardware optimized the latest Chromebook to take advantage of the Mali-T604, currently they just crank up the power consumption to maximum at all times so users experience least slowdowns possible with current hardware optimization level, so I think that with the automatic software updates coming for the Chromebook over the next weeks and months, you may see the battery life increasing from current 6.5 hours to something like 10 hours.

ARM Cortex A15 IS A POWER HOG. The google chromebook uses 3x the power of the odriod-x quad core board. I wonder how good the Vivante GC2000 is compared to the mali-400MP4 and the Mali-T604?

No, the geometry limit would be fixed (AFAIK). The cores are merely fragment shaders, used to assign a colors to pixels on the screen. The more fragment shaders, the more effects that you can have in the scene. Geometry is something different.

The pixel thoughput is also something different. It speaks to the bandwidth of the graphic subsystem and the resolutions that the the hardware can theoretically handle at a target framerate.

The Mali400MP1-4 isn’t going to push anywhere near to 450M polygons using standard rasterization. However, this performance will improve with T604 and other systems as silicon becomes more efficient and more transistors can be fit on a soc.

Where it can begin to approach consoles in graphics is creative use of the shaders and smart use of texture resources. For example, shadowgun uses geometry, textures, and shaders very wisely to give it a distinctly next-gen look. Notice the amount of texture repetition in the scene. Notice the very simple scene geometry (save for the large pipes, flags, and characters). The Kal-El version will likely have more effects (for example lighting, shadows, reflections, physics, etc).
