In reply to turn_self_off. Ipod touch and ipad are wifi only and the app stores are all about running and hosting the apps offline on the devices themselves. Archos has been the first and only actually releasing wifi-only Android devices. Not big enough for Google to yet unleash the cheaper Android experience. But you can be sure Google will not keep it back much longer. All the big manufacturers are coming with wifi only Android tablets these next few months.

i think the problem is that the android leadership at google is from outside, with background from one of the most proprietary computer brands existing right now.

and i keep wondering if the main requirement for the "google experience" is 3G of some sort or other. Google wants that data connection to be there, any where, any time. And its a US company, so everyone running the show is used to thinking in US telco terms. Tethering is a addon there, not something thats available pr default.
