Using the MediaTek MT6577 1.2Ghz dual-core processor. The Alcatel One Touch Idol Ultra they say is the worlds thinnest smartphone at 6.45mm tichkness, has a 4.7″ Super AMOLED screen, also features Alcatel One Touch Idol X and what they say is the most compact 4″ smartphone in the world. They sold 7 million smartphones in 2012, they are planning to sell 15-20 million smartphones in 2013.

HTC releases their latest flagship phone. Featuring a 1.7ghz quad-core Qualcomm S600 processor, 4.7″ 1080p 468ppi display, HTC Ultrapixel camera (4 megapixels but better), HTC Blinkfeed (social/news aggregator), HTC Boomsound (good sound), HTC Zoe (gallery features) and an Interactive TV guide (control your TV from your phone).

Firefox OS launched at Mobile World Congress 2013

Mozilla just launched the Firefox OS targetted at low-end phones for developing countries. Mozilla says it’s optimized for single-core low-megahertz phones, with low RAM, low storage, all apps are meant to be web apps. Mozilla volunteers say the goal is to bring the web to more people in developing countries.

Silicon Image showcases the WiHD standard for Wireless HD, full 4Gbitps bandwidth over the 60Ghz unlicensed spectrum. The WiHD consortium consists of Sony, Toshiba, Panasonic, Samsung, LG, TP Vision and Silicon image and it is an older more established alternative to Intel/Microsoft’s WiGig system which also functions on the same 60Ghz spectrum. Silicon Image here showcases their UltraGig 6400 sub-500mW WiHD processor which they have here installed in some modified Samsung Galaxy S3 and Kindle Fire HD to showcase how such devices can have built-in WiHD support to wirelessly stream the full HD 60fps full bitrate HD signal to a HDTV wirelessly.

P2i hydro-phobic nano-coating technology, makes all electronics water-resistant

P2i can take 800 phones at the time in their type of plasma chamber machines, which can apply some type of nano-coating all around and all inside of the electronic devices such as phones, tablets, after this process is done, the devices become just about water-repellent, water-resistant, splash-proof, hydro-phobic, or how they call it. The phone can then be full of water but still work fine because the hydro-phobic coating covers all the PCB, processor, batteries and everything inside of the phone, protecting all the electronics from the water.

ST-Ericsson launches their new 3GHz NovaThor L8580 processor based on the FD-SOI process technology, to minimize power consumption and increase the performance of the ARM Cortex-A9 processor.
