MotoMods on Indiegogo and Hackathons for the ultimate Moto Z modular Smartphone platform

The Lenovo Moto Z MotoMods ecosystem team got 700 submitions, launching 35 of those campaigns for ideas for new MotoMods on Transform the Smartphone challenge on Indiegogo with ideas ranging from barcode scanners, Edge Light LED lights for notifications wireless charging, sliding physical keyboard and many more ideas for new MotoMods that can be made for the Moto Z ecosystem. Nokia Android Phones are finally coming, 139€ Nokia 3 , 229€ Nokia 5, 189€ Nokia 6

Nokia branded Android smartphones are being launched by ex-Nokia employees having formed a new company HMD Global. Nokia Android phones are aimed at providing highest possible specs at budget prices running stock Android 7.0. The Nokia 5 and 6 features a unibody Aluminum design while the Nokia 3 features a polycarbonate design.

The Nokia 6 is the most fully featured device offered featuring a featuring FHD 5.5″, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, and Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 processor. The front camera is 8-megapixel and the back camera is 16mp. The Arte Black version of the Nokia 6 features 4gb of ram and 64gb of storage. The Arte Black version will sell for 299 euros. The Standard Nokia 6 will retail 229 euros.

The Nokia 5 has is similar to the Nokia 6 but has a curved edge display. The Nokia 5 has a 5.5″ (720p) display, Snapdragon 430 processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage and microSD. The Nokia 5 will sell for 189 Euros.

The Nokia 3 features a 5″ (720p) display, an MTK 6737 quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, and Microsd support. The Nokia 3 will sell for a price of 139 Euros.

HP Elite x3 with Lapdock with 1D and 2D barcode scanner

HP Elite x3 and Lapdock was my “Best of MWC 2016” as you can see in my video from last year, the HP Elite X3 can be docked into a Lapdock or desktop dock via USB Type C connectivity and be used in Windows Continuum mode offering functionality similar to a full computer. The Lapdock offers a full hd 12.5″ screen and full laptop keyboard.

Oppo shows 5X lossless optical dual camera zoom

Oppo showcases their technology that allows 5X zoom inside a smartphone body. The technique used involves a periscope-style structure that diverts light through a prism and onto a wide-angle lens, that allows for a claimed lossless 5X zoom. It is demonstrated on a prototype Oppo phone using a 6″ QHD with Oppo VOOC fast charging.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 with Gigabit LTE

Qualcomm demonstrates their X16 Cat16 Gigabit LTE modem integrated in the upcoming Sony Xperia XZ Premium using Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 which features 4×4 MIMO (multiple input multiple output). The phone uses 4 LTE antennaes instead of the usual 2 to boost throughput speeds to 1Gbps using carrier aggregation. The technology is expected to be more power efficient since the faster downloads would finish quicker, effectively lessening the time cellular data is used.

Sony Xperia XZ Premium is Sony’s new high end Android smartphone with a premium design and premium features such as being the world’s first smartphone with a 5.46″ 4K HDR display, uses Qualcomm Snapdragon 835, 4GB RAM, 64GB Flash, MicroSD, single or dual SIM. With a 19Megapixel back camera and 13Megapixel front camera with ultra slow motion recording support of 960fps in 720p. The XZ Premium can also be used for some pretty impressive 4K HDR VR.

Android Continuum: OXI by Auxens with Laptop Dock (Nexdock) with Vernee Apollo 2 on MediaTek X30

At the Vernee booth, as Vernee is the first to announce their upcoming 10nm Vernee Apollo 2 smartphone, running on the Helio-X25 in the Vernee Apollo, they are introducing their French startup software partner Auxens presenting the OXI Android OS Android Continuum platform! OXI is a slightly modified Android OS (adding in a few extra APIs to the normal Android firmware), it can display a desktop-like user interface with multitask features such as multi resizable windows, desktop, notifications, “Start menu” and more. It can also display this interface on the external display using DisplayLink, wireless (miracast or chromecast) or by mhl or slimport. Meanwhile the smartphone screen is still completely usable and independent, with regular Android. OXI is compatible with any current Android app. It doesn’t require any specific action from the apps developers.

MediaTek’s Tri-Cluster 10-core design features dual-core ARM Cortex-A73 at up to 2.5GHz, quad-core ARM Cortex-A53 at up to 2.2GHz and quad-core ARM Cortex A35 at up to 1.9GHz, with some really interesting features including low heat, high performance, 4K HDR, 4G LTE-Advanced WorldMode modem that uses 3x Carrier Aggregation with performance of 450MBit/s.

MediaTek Helio X30 increases performance by up to 35% and saves power by up to 50% over the MediaTek Helio X20.
CorePilot 4.0 with Centralized, Intelligent Task Scheduling, Thermal The 10nm fabrication by TSMC increases performance by up to 22% and saves power by up to 40% versus 16nm.

The 450MBit/s with 3x Carrier Aggregation downstream and 150Mbit/s with 2x Carrier Aggregation upstream for high volume content streaming and reliable connectivity. Category 10 4G LTE-Advanced WorldMode modem features new ETM 2.0 and TAS 2.0 technologies that saves battery power in everyday use by up to 35%, and up to 45% on multimedia specific scenarios.

X30 features Imagiq 2.0 with two 14-bit ISPs supporting 16+16MP dual camera functionality allows such as wide+zoom combination lenses allow real-time depth of field effects, fastest auto exposure, improved real-time denoise in low-light conditions. X30 Vision Processing Unit (VPU) paired to the Image Signal Processors (ISP) that provides a dedicated processing platform for numerous camera features, freeing up the CPU and GPU and saving power. Motorola Moto G5 Plus, Snapdragon 625, 5.2″ FHD IPS

Motorola Moto G5 Plus is the 5th generation of the popular G series budget Moto smartphone. The G5 has a metal back in fine gold and lunar grey for a more premium look. The Motorola G5 Plus has a 5.2-inch FHD IPS display, LTE, 2GHz Snapdragon 625 octa-core processor. The G5 has a 12 MP back camera with 4K recording. There is also quick charging. The G5 Plus comes in two capacities 32GB or 64GB with microsd. The fingerprint sensor can be used with gestures removing the need for onscreen navigation buttons. The price will probably be at or below $249.

The shoot 1 from DOGEE is a their latest entry level Android phone with a Sharp 5.5″ (full hd) display, MTK MT6737 64bit Quad-core ARM Cortex-A53 with Mali-T720MP2 GPU, an 8mp front camera, 13mp + 8mp back camera, 16b of rom and 2gb of ram. The price for Shoot 1 can be around $90 for distributors who buy 100 – 1000 pieces depending on the country.

LG G6

The LG G6 is the latest flagship phone from LG. The LG G6 features a 5.7″ (2,880 x 1,440) screen with an aspect ratio of 18:9. The Unique aspect ratio of the LG G6 enables having two screens at once. The LG G6 also has a minimal bezel which ensures the as much of the device as possible is screen. The G6 features a Snapdragon 821 processor. There is 32GB storage, microSD expansion, and 4gb of ram. For connectivity there is USB type C 3.1 with Quick Charge 3.0, NFC and LTE of up to 600 Mbps. There is a dual 13mp camera on the back 5mp camera on the front. The LG G6 is a dustproof and waterproof up to IP68. The vbattery is no longer removable and the design is no longer modular. The price and release date are to be determined and vary by region.

The Miraxess Mirabook turns your smartphone into a 13.3″ laptop. The device works with Android or Windows Smartphones through USB type C and charges your phone. The battery life is said to be 24 hours. The Mirabook features HDMI, USB Type C, and an SD Card Reader I/O for and Premium speakers. The device is a prototype with a target price of $299 and availability to be announced.

DisplayLink is showing some of their latest demos, here featuring a smooth wireless HTC Vive experience using a DisplayLink dock connected with wireless 60Ghz video signal to/from the VR gaming PC, then showing daisy-chaining 3 DisplayLink docks powered by the DisplayLink DL-6950 chip, launching this Dock in the Targus Dock 160 launching for $249 at Amazon.com. DisplayLink engineered its algorithm to compress display over USB, it works with Chromebooks, Android phones, Windows 10, Ubuntu, Mac OS and more. DisplayLink got integrated with Chromebooks natively by DisplayLink’s partnership with Google, and for Android you just need to run the DisplayLink Presenter app for it to work from most Android phones that have Micro-USB or USB Type-C, as long as those have USB Host function active in them. DisplayLink is well integrated with Windows 10 also at the core of Windows Continuum. They also demonstrate SiBeam for a wireless USB connector.

Graalphone is a sliding keyboard 7″ FHD Windows tablet with stylus. The Graalphone has both an Intel Atom and ARM Processor. The graalphone has an Android phone which attaches to it. There are dual cameras for 3d recording functionality. The device is a concept and the target price is about $700.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 enables Gigabit LTE, 4K60p 360 live stiching, 6-degrees VR at CES 2017

Here’s a booth tour at the Qualcomm CES 2017 Booth, showing some of the features that Qualcomm is introducing with their 10nm Snapdragon 835 processor, the first processor to use the “Built on Cortex” technology ARM License. Qualcomm’s 10nm Kryo 280 might be built (my speculation) on quad ARM Cortex-A73 and quad ARM Cortex-A53, but customized by Qualcomm with their own design features on top, or throughout, including also Qualcomm’s own memory controllers and Qualcomm’s new X16 Gigabit LTE Baseband system. Qualcomm X16 Baseband supports up to Gigabit 1000mbit/s download speed and 150Mbps upload speed. It can function over a mix of licensed and unlicensed carrier spectrum. At the Qualcomm booth, this video also shows off some of the other awesome features that Qualcomm is making available with Snapdragon 835, includingn HDR10 4K60p HDMI 2.1a support and potentially HDR ready displays for smartphones to come, Project Tango and similar depth sensing for 6-degrees of freedom VR experiences merging the virtual world with the real world, turning VR into AR. Some other new multimedia features include live real-time stitching of 360 video at 4K 60 frames per second (possibly encoding with H265) which could enable the most advanced 360 video recording, also possibly recording 360 audio. Then combining 3 microphones to design directional audio recording similar to a shotgun microphone, improving the electronic image stabilization functionality (now to version 3.0) and deep neural networks run on the device for integrating advanced computer vision in the smartphone.

Xiaomi is a 6-year old startup from China that has shipped hundreds of millions of Smartphones, but mostly in China. Xiaomi is trying to expand to Europe and the USA. Smart medical kit from Miki Mobile with blood pressure measurement and more

Shenzhen-based Miki Mobile is predominantly a manufacturer of smartphones and tablets. Demoed here is a 10.1” 1280×800-pixel tablet with LTE capabilities on an MTK6735 chipset with a quad-core Cortex-A53 processor, selling for US$70. Their smartphone range has a variety of specs such as 4000mAh battery, 2.5D curved glass, and up to 6” display sizes. Their medical case is a mobile health kit with abilities to check blood sugar, blood pressure, the ability to magnify points for inspection, etc.
