Full Windows 10 on ARM 64bit 10nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 835

Qualcomm demonstrates a full version of Windows 10 running every x86 application through emulation technology that Microsoft and Qualcomm have worked on very hardly to hopefully be able to show good performance running any x86 Windows app on ARM, as the Snapdragon 835 is the fastest ARM processor in the world, at least the fastest ever from Qualcomm. The marketing angle will also position every ARM Powered Windows 10 Laptop as being with built-in Gigabit LTE through an eSIM meaning you will be able to click and subscribe to any Data plan or with your telco agreeing add your Laptop simply to your existing LTE Smartphone package. Consumers will be able to expect amazingly fast LTE connectivity, very long battery life, always connected always standby functionality (checking emails etc in the background even while the Laptop is closed), compatibility with all x86 Windows apps (win32), it will be interesting to see if apps like GIMP, Adobe Photoshop, Sony Vegas, Adobe Premiere and other more demanding x86 Windows .exe apps if they can install and run with decent enough performance through this emulator. It will be interesting to see if Microsoft and Qualcomm are able to utilise all the hardware acceleration such as the GPU and all 8 cores of the Snapdragon 835 big.LITTLE "Built on Cortex Technology" platform to speed up the performance even of advanced apps and games to somehow magically perform well through the emulator. Possibly that Qualcomm even designed a specific area on the Snapdragon 835 SoC that is specifically designed to further accelerate the x86 Windows app emulation functionality? Windows 10 on ARM devices will hopefully start shipping at prices around $600-700 in extremely thin and light form factories to be made by Lenovo, HP and Asus and hopefully released worldwide before the end of the year.

Here is my third factory tour with faytech Tech. Co., Ltd (after I filmed the faytech 2013 tour and the faytech 2015 tour) , this time at their newest factory location, seeing over the past few years this company develop from a small startup company to a world leading industrial touch device manufacturer with advanced in-house manufacturing capabilities is quite impressive. You can see for yourself in this video how they develop. In the video, Arne Weber, CEO of faytech, walks us through their new factory. Currently they are on two floors, one for office and production, the other one as warehouse, incoming material check and test area featuring also several special innovative projects.

Toradex at Microsoft Booth with Azure IoT Hub, Windows 10 IoT Core and Windows Embedded Compact

At the Microsoft booth, Toradex demonstrated its multiplatform system connected to the Microsoft Azure IoT Hub – the Cloud Parking demo. Toradex System on Modules (SoMs) were employed in the access control, license plate recognition and the payment system, the communication between them made only through the internet, using only the Azure services. Linux, Windows 10 IoT Core, and Windows Embedded Compact are used as Operating Systems on the modules. Additionally, an interesting Toradex showcase included their new Heterogeneous Multicore Low Power demo featuring the Colibri iMX7D based on the NXP i.MX 7 Dual Core SoC.

My first time trying on the Microsoft Hololens headmounted augmented reality system running on an Intel cherrytrail system selling at $3000 on the Microsoft store. In this video I walk around the Microsoft booth at Embedded World, checking out some of Microsoft's partners including Microtronics smart bicvcle running Silicon Labs ARM Cortex-M system through Windows Server. This video features Toradex at 4:13 into the video demonstrating its multiplatform system connected to the Microsoft Azure IoT Hub where Linux, Windows 10 IoT Core, and Windows Embedded Compact are used as Operating Systems on the modules featuring Heterogeneous Multicore Low Power Colibri iMX7D based on the NXP i.MX 7 Dual Core SoC.

Geniatech Embedded Solutions, Developer Board 4X, world’s smallest Snapdragon 410 board

Qualcomm Snapdragon at Embedded World 2017

The Qualcomm Snapdragon platform is originally designed for mobile, but now can be embedded into Interactive kiosks, Digital signage, Robotics, High-tech toys, in flight entertainment, medical imaging and all kinds of ideas for any advanced IoT. Qualcomm positions their Snapdragon processors for Embedded to provide a superior performance, low power consumption and integrated connectivity to make devices more aware, connected, intelligent and interactive. The Snapdragon platform offers development kits, single-board computers and scaling up to customer solutions, integration services and production-ready, customizable System-on-Modules (SOMs). At Embedded World 2017, Qualcomm talks about Snapdragon 410E, Snapdragon 600E and also talks about the upcoming 820 series for embedded all with long term support (at least until 2025) to provide their maximum performance. With many projects to be born out of the Dragonboard 410c and showing off other solutions such as the Geniatech Developer Board 4, the small Geniatech DB4x 410 based module, the Altierre Systems powered embedded vision real-time synchronized multi-camera 130-degree panorama 4K system that is in the Panacast 2, eInfoChips eragon 820, Inforce, Kiteboard Snapdragon 410 board with a LTE sim card slot and more. All these Qualcomm Snapdragon based Embedded products can support multiple operating systems Android, Linux thanks to the availability of the open source Freedreno GPU driver and Windows 10 support also.

HP Elite x3 with Lapdock with 1D and 2D barcode scanner

HP Elite x3 and Lapdock was my "Best of MWC 2016" as you can see in my video from last year, the HP Elite X3 can be docked into a Lapdock or desktop dock via USB Type C connectivity and be used in Windows Continuum mode offering functionality similar to a full computer. The Lapdock offers a full hd 12.5" screen and full laptop keyboard.

$799 Lenovo Yoga 520

Lenovo Yoga 520 is a 14" or 15" convertible laptop with a FHD display, Kaby Lake processors, and Nvidia GeForce 940MX GPU. There is room for both an SSD and HDD, with ram options up to 16 GB. There is also a fingerprint reader for security. There is an activie digitizer pen. Prices for the Yoga 520 series range from $799 and up depending on region and configuration also with the optional stylus pen input and an optional fingerprint sensor.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 835

Quaclomm Snapgragon 835 is Qualcomm's fastest ARM processor ever, possibly the world's fastest Smartphone ARM Processor yet. Built on amazingly small 10nm, Snapdragon 835 is 35% smaller and offers power efficiency gains of up to 35% over the previous generation Snapdragon 821 processor. Gigabit LTE is available through the X16 modem and multi-Gigabit speeds over 802.11ad, integrated 2x2 11ac MU-MIMO Wi-Fi. Quick charge 4.0 charges 20% faster with up to 30% more efficiency. Snapdragon 835 supports VR and AR such as Project Tango. Snapdragon 835 is a semi custom ARM processor "based on ARM Cortex Technology" and featuring 8 Qualcomm Kryo 280 processor cores and Qualcomm's newest Adreno 540 GPU. Adreno 540 offers 25% faster graphics rendering and 60x more display colors than previous Adreno GPU. The Snapdragon 835 will be able to run Windows 10 with x86 apps emulation support.

Samsung Galaxy Book, 10.6″ FHD, 12″ AMOLED 2560×1440 Laptop/Tablet convertibles

The Samsung Galaxy Book features a 12" Super AMOLED display with a resolution 2160x1440 which Samsung states supports videos in HDR 10-bit or a The 10.6" version with 1920x1280 TFT LCD display. Both versions of the tablet will support S-Pen technology. The 10.6" tablets supports a Core M3 processor, 4gb of ram, Microsd, LTE, and up to 128gb of emmc storage the 12" supports a Core i5 processor, 4gb or 8gb of ram, and 256gb of ssd storage. Samsung is quoting around 10 hours of use for both and both will have access to fast charging. The 10.6-inch modle has 4K/30fps playback but 12" can handle 4K/60fps playback.
