Japanese NHK public broadcast R&D group shows their 120Hz 8K display and camera (at 144Gbit/s through optical) by Hitachi (red/blue/green prism sensors) and Astro (single image sensor) that I filmed here. Japan wants to just leapfrog 4K and go directly to 8K testing 8K broadcasts starting in 2016, with full massive deployments targetted for 2020 where everyone in Japan will maybe be able to receive 8K TV.
Silver Nanowire Transparent Conductors From Cambrios for Touch Screens, Solar Panels, Lighting and Flexible displays
Cambrios CEO John LeMoncheck at IFA 2014 gives an update on the great progress they are making with AgNW transparent conductors for touch screens, enabling flexible touch, thin and light form that is suitable for wearable devices. With the latest launch of thin iPhones and Apple Watch, the race for thin, light, curved, flexible electronic devices has begun and material such as Cambrios ClearOhm silver nano wires are key to enable these technologies. In this video you will see their latest, never shown before 7” single layer touch screen that is highly conductive, transparent, very thin and light and suitable for bezel-less device designs. Apart from touch screens they are also enabling transparent solar cells, OLEd lighting, flexible displays like ePaper and OLED.
Last year, I posted a 48-minute tour at the faytech touchscreen factory.
Here is the latest version (V.2) of faytech´s 7”-12"" Touchscreen Monitor Series has numerous detail improvements including lockable standard connections, a unique cable channelling back cover and mounting frames for machine and wall mount integration. Additionally each model has faster start up and reaction times because of an improved controller chipset.
The series retains its features including: LED backlights, 4-wire resistive touch panel, extra robust components, extended current input (8-36V), VGA+HDMI ports, three video inputs, wall mountable, a high-quality pedestal, and extended temperature range. Each Touchscreen Monitor comes with faytech’s 100% guarantee of no defective pixels, and is suitable for 24/7 operation.
The high resolution support (e.g. 1080p, 1920x1200 pixels) of these faytech touchscreens make them the perfect choice for a wide variety of applications. Some of these include: use as a surveillance monitor when combined with a HTPC or with security cameras; as control panels in the industrial area; in kiosk systems; as cash monitor or information terminals; for machine control; home automation; on farm machinery; on forklifts in distribution centers; wind turbine controls; telematics in transportation systems and in many other areas.
The integrated touch panel is reliable and accurate. The touch function is quickly established via the USB port of your PC, while industrial users can connect the touch function through the serial port. faytech includes touchscreen drivers for popular Microsoft (CE, WinXP, Vista), Mac and Linux operating systems. For Win7 and Win8 operating systems, no driver installation is needed because the MER4485 chipset used in faytech´s in-house designed touch controller supports Login using virtual keyboard and immediate use of windows gestures after Login. This makes starting and using Windows 8 incredibly easy. Embedded systems like e.g. the raspberry Pi are also supported.
Customization is available for project customers (e.g. higher brightness, brightness sensor, IP protection classes, webcam, scanners, printers, capacitive and SAW touch panels, etc.). See more information about faytech products at www.faytech.com

Dialog Semiconductor shows Bluetooth Low Energy, LED lighting, Mutli-touch pressure sensitive displays and Audio Beam forming
Dialog Semiconductor is to most known as a company doing Power management for portable devices, but at MWC 2014 Dialog shows they do some other products:
· DA14580 Bluetooth Low Energy
· iW6401 dimmable LED light
· DA8901 Multi-touch IC
· DA7322 Audio beam former
The demo’s show some easy to understand applications.
This is 360 video, presented by Finwe Ltd CEO Juha Kela. 360 video is a special video production technology that utilizes multiple cameras to produce a full spherical 360x180 degree video experience. Video from multiple sources is synchronized, fine tuned and stitched together with a software called Autopano Video and Autopano Giga by Kolor. Kolor also delivers solutions for 360 video hosting and playback on a PC and web browser. Web player is based on html5.
Finwe ltd has developed a movement and touch controlled 360 video player for mobile devices, called 360 VideoBall. In collaboration with Kolor, they also just released a pre-version of free Kolor Eyes Android player. Beyond that, mobile player can also be used with Kickstarter funded goggles vrAse. This cool gadget has lenses and a special frame that holds mobile phones inside. The mobile phone is then used as a movement controlled display device, producing a separate image for both eyes. There is now an equipment based on 6 GoPro's in a 360x180 formation to shoot 360 3D videos, which was used as a demonstration in MWC. The experience is really stunning and the image quality is very good thanks to the high quality and resolution of mobile devices.
Finwe CEO Juha Kela also demonstrated a special custom technology that enables 6k 360 video playback on a mobile phone. Current devices support only 4k resolution, but with the special technology they developed devices can play back videos even with 8k resolution! With this solution, user can zoom into the video without losing the quality.
To be able to provide a full turn key solution for 360 video production and to support the marketing of the mobile 360 video player technology Juha Kela founded a company called FinCloud Ltd. FinCloud has already done number of multi camera productions and one of their productions, a 360 music video for Finnish band Apulanta is currently nominated in Spotify "Innovator of the Year" category in Emma Gaala. Emma Gaala is an annual event, which rewards the most significant players in the industry during a year.

Here are the cheapest yet 4K displays for sale all over China, now being exported worldwide either under the Konka brand or under third party brands. They sell about 30K 4K displays per month at the moment and mass production of these are ramping up. Those all support HDMI 2 60fps by default. Konka uses the LG and Samsung 4K panels, so the quality is the same in terms of the panel, the CPU and 4K engine is different generating and upscaling perhaps different 4K quality yet, they use for example MStar 4K engine with among other things 4K HEVC decode support.
LG makes 4k TVS anywhere in the ballpark of 49" to 105". LG TV's have upscaling technology so that HD videos can be watched in 4k. LG plans to release the 49" 4k television during 2014 at unspecified date with no announced price. Netflix plans to offer 4k movie streaming and the LG TVS will be compatible with it.
