superMHL 8K 120fps, USB Type-C, 40W, more bandwidth

The MHL Consortium has outdone itself with their latest technology mega specification, now perhaps setting the spec at a very future proof level (shall we say at least until 2020?), supporting up to 8K at 120fps, with up to 40W for power charge, delivering higher resolution, faster frame rates, support for the upcoming USB Type-C (dual side reversible) connector for up to 8K 60fps output from a phone (wow wow!). For the first time, MHL also introduces a new superMHL connector for 8K TVs (as in the first 8K TV from Samsung shown at CES). The SuperMHL spec is for mobile devices, set-top boxes (STBs), Blu-ray players, Audio/video recorders, HDMI sticks and other source devices to TVs and monitors, as SuperMHL should be included in most future FHD/4K/8K TVs, PC Monitors, MHL has shipped in over 750 Million devices thus far. The new SuperMHL spec is also offering wider color gamut, deeper colors (to reduce color banding), high dynamic range (HDR) supported through signaling and through higher bandwidth.

Charbax on Camel in Marrakech Desert

Posted by – December 10, 2014

I take the Camel across the desert outside of Marrakech Morocco, here are two video samples filmed in 4K using the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Powered by MHL 3

4K sample filmed with Samsung Galaxy Note 4 outputting 4K using MHL 3

Posted by – December 4, 2014

This video was filmed using the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 that records 4K video, this is the built-in 4K encode at 50mbitps, using the built-in microphone. Perhaps there is some good Bluetooth Microphone system that could be used for lapel-microphone and for handheld microphone, perhaps also a good shotgun microphone. Let me know in the comments if you know any good of these that could be used with 4K smartphones to record highest quality audio. I also would like to upgrade my camera on the steadicam to 4K, I like the idea of perhaps trying out the Samsung NX1 that can encode 4K in H265 at 40mbitps, or perhaps I’ll wait for some other high performance 4K H265 camera, the idea being for the 4K footage to be compressed well enough in the camera so that the videos can be uploaded to YouTube directly. It seems though that http://youtube.com/editor doesn’t support 4K rendering yet (meaning that when someone tries to join/split 4K videos with YouTube editor, it outputs only a 1080p maximum file? Can someone please report this to Google? Otherwise perhaps there would be a camera to offer native 4K H265 in-camera basic join/split editing, perhaps even also with support to automatically add intros, outros, overlay transparent watermark branding (even animated watermark branding). Dual SD card recording for backup (when SD cards break, which has happened too often for me).

Nokia X Android Store, Nokia services replace Google Maps, Notifications and In-app Payments

Posted by – April 10, 2014

All Android app developers are invited by Nokia to change a few things (swaping Google services with Nokia services) to submit all Android apps in the Nokia Android App Store. For now Nokia is avoiding to try to support the Google Mobile Services (GMS), and instead requires that all Android apps be ported to Nokia’s Services for Location using Nokia Here Maps instead of Google Maps, for Notifications also going through Nokia Notifications system instead of the Google Notifications system and then for in-app payments Nokia has its own non-Google payment system that app developers are required to use if they want their apps to work on Nokia X Android Store.

Finwe and vrAse show how the Smartphone-in-your-face powers the mass market virtual reality media of the future, it works!

Posted by – April 4, 2014

I discovered the awesomeness that are Finwe and vrAse which quite simply made me understand the whole VR segment for the first time. The idea that we will simply use our Smartphones and Tablets to power really advanced mass market heads-up augmented reality applications, this is awesome. There isn’t need for Facebook’s $2 Billion Oculus VR.

So you have been seeing all the news about Finwe and vrAse right here on ARMdevices.net consider that websites TheVerge, CNET and co don’t even know yet that this awesomeness exists.
