I think the data/voice/sms plan subsidy business is a scam. I'm thinking like approximately if the Galaxy S2 is $500, the Galaxy R might be $400. That price is for unlocked or the kind of price that the carrier may be paying for these. If the carrier thus makes it $99 on plan vs $199 on plan, that's up to them, maybe the carriers in the US don't give the savings to the consumers and instead just keeps the savings as a profit and thus they may push the Galaxy R more in terms of marketing and shelf space.

A rumination concerning you statement that "this phone will be about $100 cheaper":I must stipulate first that I am not a smartphone owner and have never considered buying one except for maybe an unlocked model which are always priced ridiculous high, so are quickly dismissed.Given phones have different data plans, isn't it only meaningful for price comparison purposes, to provide expected price information for a phone based on a given data plan or at the unlocked price?
