Have to say I disagree too.

In many cases, you're right, video adds very little. Videos from armdevices are, for me, the next best thing to walking around the stands myself.

I saw the Rockchip guys there and asked them if they are showing mobile phones with their chip inside, they told me yes they have some, but I didn't manage to find them at a booth or meeting room to film a new video with them.

Charbax - Was Rockchip at this event at all? I'm intrigued by their RK2900 line of chips (particularly because Archos used it for a concept tablet at CES) but I've seen little of their presence at MWC other than a post on their press page.

They are awesome. I finally am back to my relatively stable 1mbit/s home upload connection, so I am now pumping up the rest of the nearly full 32GB SD card of videos that I filmed during this awesome week.

I'm still mad though that MWC didn't have that media center open more than 1h per day (after showfloor close), and those poor young spanish security guards that I had to fight with to extend my uploading time few minutes here and there after they had kept saying dozens of times that we all had to leave. In my opinion, for no apparent reason, all the ethernet connections and internet backbone was just left unused overnight after 7PM, what a waste..

This sounds awesome, do you think it could work to get the videos up on YouTube?

I've seen for example the CrunchGear/TechCrunchTV people walk around with weird looking backpacks at CES, they were live broadcasting from CES using a bunch of combined 3G or 4G connections, somehow making that work (as far as I know) through the CES halls and press conferences, even though everyone else can hardly connect to any WiFi or 3G because of interference and lack of bandwidth from the base stations..

I imagine that kind of 3G bonding could become expensive. Some of the cheaper 3G carriers I saw in Barcelona such as Yoigo have a 100mb/day limit for 3 euro per day, thus even if bonded, even if I bought a ton of SIM cards and had a system to swap them out, it'd become too expensive and too difficult to organize I think.

Tricks for getting better bandwidth are fascinating though, let's get this to work.

I prefer to get as many videos out there as possible, and then let people skim through what they might find interesting, and I think that also increases my overall view count as it makes it more likely some of the videos catch on with being embedded on other blogs and getting found in Google and YouTube searches for the topics filmed.

Though I agree, this site could use with more text. Maybe I should hire someone or partner up with someone who could help me get more and better content up on the site faster. I'm not sure exactly where I could find that partner, maybe I'll do a post asking for interested people (if there are any..) to contact me.

Charbax said:"I met many other video-bloggers complaining very harshly about them not being able to publish their videos during the show. We can’t find any fast upload speeds at hotels or any other place around Barcelona, and it’s the same in San Francisco, Las Vegas, Berlin, Hannover,..."

im surprised you and they didn't try and collaborate and find a way to pool all you're connections etc

for instance id imagine that you all had separate mobile vendor accounts as well as several or at least one generic connection on site etc.....

then you could have if you/they carried a mini PC or something else more suitable and make a USB Bonded virtual pipe from all these local yet separate upload streams available to all of you with say
a portable http://www.zeroshell.net/eng/load-balancing-failover/ live cd

the idea is simple bond 2 or more mobile and/or fixed connections together and create a faster virtual upload/download pipe that everyone around you can access and upload to/from as a community collective for instance , it takes a little experimentation to get it right given different pipes available to you OC and you would need to do that at home with several mobile vendor USB sticks etc to be sure it worlds in a bonded mode , but worth a go and better than a single slow connection or relying on the conference to get it right, something to try for fun at least and you may even get a new mobile community bonded upload user base started (just remember me when you do LOL)

Capturing the moment, and having proof on video is good. Writing about it so others can read it and buzz it is better.

Perhaps I wasn't clear when I said text + picture. Video is always nice, but you often decide to view it or not based on the text that describes what it contains.
So it goes like this : catch phrase -> picture -> text -> video. With Charbax it's often title -> video. He does great work, but it's simply lost for most people because there's no time to view all the videos.

Hey, armdevices is a one man-army, and I know you have to chose your battles somehow. I was just complaining about this choice with regards to my preferences.

i have to disagree there Aissen, its simply not true to say "the easy, lazy way".

Charbax#s video's capture 'the moment' and many a rep off guard and so you get to see them make slips of info they didnt want to let out at that time but end up giving more in the end as its something new they are not used to dealing with.

What *you* have to understand is that video coverage is the easy, lazy way. I acknowlegde that you're doing great reporting work at most conference you go to. But just publishing 5-10 min videos is really not the way to get more readers. People don't have time to load your video and watch exclusively that during 5-10min, and do nothing else.

A photo and a text explaining what's in the video are much more interesting, and we can chose to view or not the videos based on the reporting you do. Please write more. Please at least tell us what's in the videos you're publishing so we don't have to watch them.
