It would be a good deal if the screen didn't screw up after less then a month of having it, mine isn't responding to any type of touch and from what I can see there's no way to fix it, so its an expensive brick

As I said even at that price, I would not buy it, the user experience is very poor for a person that is used to a capacitive screen. The A43 would be the killer of the Ipod Touch if only if had a capacitive screen. They should ship the new units with the latest screen if they still want to be in the market for the next few years.

Cheap capacitive 4.3" screens didn't exist 1 and a half years ago when the Archos 43 Internet Tablet was announced. Now being sold at $149 and below it's still a good deal, even without a capacitive screen, its resistive screen is one of the most reactive types around for a resistive.

I bought an Archos 43 last May, I have to say that the user experience is very poor, the touchscreen is resisitive and is irresponsive even with the latest firmware upgrade, sent mine back to Archos to see if it is defective or not. I can not understand why Archos went for a resitive screen instead of a capacitive one, it they have put the capacitive screen, the Archos 43 would be an Apple Ipod serious contender.
The picture quality of the camera is really bad, HD videos, don't know what to say. I have a Blackberry Torch 9800 and I can tell you that the camcorder quality is much better by far, I know that the phone is twice as expensive as the Archos 43

Other features of the Archos 43, like Networking, mini HDMI output, Music Player are great and work very well.

Buy if you are used to any decent touchscreen like the ones that come with the blackberry torch 9800, Iphone 3GS or 4, Samsung Galaxy, HTC or even lower spec phones like Samsung Europa(my little daughter has one), my recommendation is not to buy it.

You idiot. Resistive VS Capacitive has nothing to do with display quality - it refers to the technology used by the touch-enabled device to register response to touch-induced interaction.

Heyo Charbox,
Thank you for your videos! I have a question! is the Archos 43 Internet Tablet resistive or capacitive touch? When I was watching this video, it seemed that it was easier (and more accurate) to navigate with. I have the Archos 43 Vision, and it is not as easy to watch files...I am thinking of probably upgrading...

I don't think it makes much difference. Especially not when the resistive screens are of such high quality. Those are the best resistive screens I have seen. Many users would not be able to figure out if they are resistive or capacitive, that's how good they are.

In any ways, I don't think the capacitive 3.something is worth $129 more or that the capacitive 4.3" is worth $400 more, when you compare with whatever capacitive devices are on the market.

Hey Charbax,

love watching your reviews, thanks a lot for doing them. However, you really should mention that the small Archos tablets have a resistive touch, whereas the iPod Touch has a capacitive one. I think it makes a big qualitative difference. Or what do you think?

This looked like an uninteresting device... until I saw that TV connection functionally! That is crazy, it essentially turns it into a tiny HTPC! I'm defiantly considering buying one now, thanks for the video!

Anything Android can do, it can do. So as Android supports all languages, so does this device. The full Google Marketplace will be installable very likely as it has been available on the previous Archos Android tablet.

Nobody knows what Gingerbread is going to be, my guess is yes it should work, but only Google knows.

Sorry for two posts in a row, but could you do a video demonstrating to people how they can install other language UIs in general? Both the UI and input methods for non-English languages are really important to a lot of people. That would be really helpful.

Hi Charbox,

Love your reviews and interviews, and am becoming a bit of an Archos fan myself. But I have one question that is really important to me, and is critical to whether I consider one of these devices or not -- can it install other language interfaces for the user interface (Chinese specifically), and can it install Chinese handwriting recognition. Specifically, I am most interested in the Archos 70, but I require it to be able to use Chinese handwriting recognition and use a native Chinese UI. Are language packs available in the Appslib market? Or alternatively, is the full android market able to be side-loaded? Lastly, do you know if Gingerbread is going to be made available for these Generation 8 Archos devices?

Thanks and keep up the great work!
