LHC is 100 more precise than any previous laboratory experiments to discover what particles are made of. So it's not just a matter of it being 3.5 to 7 times more powerful. The more powerful the magnets, the order of magnitude more we can discover. This could mean the biggest revolution in our understanding of the universe since the theory of relativity and the quantum physics that Einstein introduced about 100 years ago. We could have built LHC over 10 years ago, because of bureaucracy of Governments, we only have it now.

The only way to find the Higgs particles among the debris of these collisions is to compare the masses measured with theoretical calculations and see if they match. But we already know the mass of the electrons and other particles very accurately for decades, so why no one came up yet with their values theoretically, like they did with these Higgs particle? All you need is paper and pen, far more cheaper than this LHC.
